Another rainy day in Puget Sound leads to a raiding of the parts stash. I had picked up a SS ST300 earlier for a decent price. It was in good used condition with only some light scratches on the handle and plier jaws. All the tools looked they have never been used.  I picked up the Surge Bit Exchanger for it. The Coyote Brown Handles were from another project and were sitting. Glad to finally put them to use.  Idle hands……

Solid pics, E, Steve and P-Dog.      I'm rocking a stainless ST300 for new year's eve. At $99.95, the ST300 is almost a bargain in today's market.

Good choice!  The ST300 was and remains my work horse MT.
It was my first, that I purchased, when tempted at a LOWES on clearance at 40$ in 2016 or 15.

At 99 it is a bargain just as its little brother, the Rebar!

I am rewatching “The Last Alaskans”. Episode 1 I notice Heimo, a true Frontiersman deploys his ST300 to dress out a Caribou he just shot.  And another episode in Season 2, he dresses out a Moose and quarters it down for packing out with his tool again.

If it can be useful at the Artic Circle it can work any where’!😉
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

Happy STS everyone. I finally got around to getting this on back together. Parts are from three different ST300s. Jaws, pivots, and some tools from a EOD, handles from a SS ST300, and plain blade, awl, and file, as well as washers and spacers from a donor BO ST300. While I was at it, I threw in a bit adapter from a Surge. At this point, I really don’t know what to call this one. Ideas?

Nice job JonesE!
The tools name does not concern me, the bit adapter does🤨

On my Wave I have been let down multiple times, as the bit installed comes up missing😢.  I  was never let down by my ST, the flat and Phillips drivers were always there, every time.

The mod I have consider is the Surge’s blade adapter.
Return the flat drivers or just the medium, leave the standard file, but remove the wood saw, install the adapter,!so you can have either a wood saw, metal saw, or diamond file😁

Yes the standard file can cut metal (thin metal), but the hack saw blade can cut more.  But three file surfaces would add more versatility.  Plus the flat saws carry easier in the sheath. And you can yet have versatility with a bit adapter using the Rebar/ST kit extender.

Just my two cents.  Then call it the SuperDouper 3000 Tool😉
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

Great ideas on naming guys.

LC, I have researched adding s Surge saw adapter to the ST300. In order to make it work, I would need a bronze bushing to be made and I don’t have access to a lathe. I have the ability to mod the saw adapter to match the profile and fit in the ST300. Some members on here have made this work with success. I have two ST300Ms that have EOD saw adapters in them. For the bit driver adapter I have not lost any bits like you have. On the opposite side of the bit adapter from the thumb nick, you will find the spring. If your bit is loose or rattles, I believe you can add tension to the spring by pressing in on the spring with a flat head driver. I like the bit driver in that it gives me the ability to use a bit extender to reach into areas the standard tools can’t. There are times the added length is helpful.

 Thank you for the detail.
Just saying since the Bit Extender adapter for the REBAR and ST’s Phillips the Surge bit adapter in a ST seems redundant.

My lost bits or missing bits issue is normal for the small bits snagging the fastener’s head after tightening. When done, you pull the tool away and bit remains.

I have the greatest respect for modders, it takes more than just swapping implements between tools. Planning and playout required.

If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!
