Welcome Home Mrs. Bowen!  And Dave that's great news that she's home and improving.  You're right, the wound vacs are awesome...I've seen them do some pretty amazing things for all kinds of wounds and I'm praying that it will do the same for your wife.  I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and an even better New Year.  Please pass on all our regards to your wife and family.  :)

What nightmare!    I'm glad to see that the road ahead is at least positive and so glad you've got your good lady home for Christmas.

You take care.
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

Foot update 2-10-10
Share
Well the visit with the infectious disease doc was not what we hoped for. From the time we walked in the door till they time we left was 5 hours. Everything we told him about the wound in addition to him seeing it in person contradicted what we knew. If he had been the doc taking care of this she might have been healed already. First off it probably was not a brown recluse bite, they are more native to northwest Georgia and you don't see them down here.He told us what the name was but I can't recall, had to do something with the skin might have had a cut or something and a rare reaction happened that is like a defense mechanism of the body. If it was this then it probably could have been cleared up with penicillin and minimal surgical intervention. The way we are right now, Vantomicin is not the antibiotic she probably needs to be treated with, he wants to do some tests but he is thinking a penicillin pump (worn 24 hours a day), I don't know all the specifics yet but he thinks we are going overkill on the antibiotics and they are not doing the job. He feels bad that all this had to happen (foot/port/suffering) and all of it could have been avoided. She sees another doc along with th is one again next week, they will get together and finally find a way to end all of this. Neither one of her current docs are in the wrong, it's just beyond the scope of their knowledge and she should have been to see him sooner. She may still loose her toe, he said you are now to the point where you would rather have a functional foot rather that no foot at all. The big toe is a major point of balance/pushing etc for the foot and without it you will have difficulty. It's hard to cover everything I heard yesterday but in a nutshell, everything is the opposite of what we know and alot of change is happening, all for the good I hope. Keep her in your prayers folks, thanks for being there.

It's been a long time guys but since my Dad died things have been hectic. Christina is able to walk again in sneakers! AMEN! The doc cleared her to go swimming and we got her a special pair of diabetic new balance shoes and she is walking pretty good in spite of her problems. In August she will begin re-constructive surgery, till then she is going to enjoy life as much as she can. She still has stomach problems but now that she has been cleared from the antibiotic maybe she can feel normal again. Her foot is way messed up inside, her foot now leans in and when she walks her foot doesn't land straight but diagonal. Doctor says it's from the tendons and because she has been walking funny for so long. It should work itself out in time and it we just have to be careful and not over do it. Anyways, thanks for all your prayers folks.
