Just don't forget about this post a year from now when you are out on the street, homeless, starving, and without two cents to rub together, sitting on a crate full of new knives and multitools! :D
In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

That was some time ago- I believe that KF is significantly larger than that now.

It's interesting that you felt you were at a dead end- my interest in knives was something I'd hidden for the longest time as the only other knife collector I'd known of had murdered someone in the street and blamed it on someone else, and that someone else did a significant amount of jail time as a result.  I never wanted to be associated with someone like that so I was terrified to let anyone know I was interested in knives!

Wikipedia doesn't say much about him, but here's the larger story:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_Marshall,_Jr.

This story from the CBC lists it almost in passing:

http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2009/08/06/donald-marshall-wrongful-conviction-dies342.html

Roy Ebsary, an eccentric who bragged about being skilled with knives, was eventually convicted of manslaughter in Seale's death and spent a year in jail.
