From the first comment on my blog, I knew this guy had taste, Leatherman Charge TTi, mmmmmmmmm :)

As the others said Greg, this is about the friendliest forum on the 'net, and these guys love nothing more than sharing what they know about multitools - so don't be shy and ask away :tu:

Oh, and btw, I'd say that owning 20 tools already means you are already waaaaay past that ppoint of no return ;)

I used to come here a lot.

Thanks again, this time for the tips on sharpening the cutting hook.  Assuming it is supposed to be sharp like a knife, it is pretty useless in it's current state.  I will see if I can find a diamond file of the appropriate diameter, if not I will try some fine emery cloth.  This Charge TTI is my new EDC (that List of Acronyms will help me sound a bit more like I know what I'm doing), and will go into rotation with my faithful Wave.

As was suggested, I dutifully linked my bank account to the Leatherman Corp. and what do you know, my account is empty - must have been LM - couldn't have been me.

That's a very respectable collection there Greg - very nice  :tu:

Looks as though you are focussing on the retired tools first, or are you opportunist like the rest of us?

Well, now I am confused about what I'm holding in my hand, no, I'm talking about the Charge.  It was sold (ebay) as a TTI, has both the scissors AND the cutting hook, and the knife blade is marked S30V.  If I recall Dave K's video comparing the charge models, these features would make it a TTI.  Yet it is date stamped 0404 - I see that this does not mesh with the timeline!

It sounds like a Charge TTi

I'll sit in the corner until the real experts arrive :D

Are you sure it's 0404, and not 0409 or something?

Welcome to the forums.

Pics are mandatory if possible.  :D

With 20 Leatherman's you will fit right in. Watch out though. You may find that SAKs are addictive also if you don't watch out.

Ya exactly, stay away from Chako's pictures and you should be fine!  :D

Welcome btw. :)

Regarding my Charge ??, the date code is clearly stamped 0404 and 0904.

As for a photo of the Charge, I've started experimenting with getting closeup shots with good detail (I have to admit it never occurred to me to photograph the MTs until discovering this website a few days - I am inspired by many great shots here).  I need also to figure out how to upload the photos - I believe I saw some info on this in another thread and will get up to speed one of these days soon.

The Leatherman.com website has both the TI and XTI with the 154CM knife blade.

Definitely getting sucked in deeper - before multitool.org, I was content to poke around on ebay; after multitool.org, I find myself taking photos and spending hours researching knife sharpening methodology.

Was on the Collecting thread and discovered the Al Mar tools - looks like a very cool collectible ... must resist!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

P.S. Dave K: yes, my focus is on the LM retired tools but have been known to grab a current model when the sale price and bank account are in sync.

Ask away wherever you'd like, we're not too fussy. :D

EDC means every day carry; something that you'd have on your person every day in other words.

Two ways to sharpen the guthook: either with a small fine abrasive bit in a Dremel tool (go easy) or by hand with a small round diamond file or sharpening stone.

Not that I've tried it myself, but how about a fine bit of 'wet-n-dry' paper on a thin rod of some kind?

Take some cotton string and some stropping compound if it is badly dulled.

Zack: "Take some cotton string and some stropping compound if it is badly dulled.'  Thanks for the suggestion, I'm not sure how this would be done.  Is the string worked back and forth as if one were using a file?

Now that I think about it, it could be a mod.  In my very limited experience I have not seen date codes with such a disparity between dates, 0404 and 0409, five months apart - seems a long time to come out of the factory that way.  The ebay seller was/is cranking em out - must have sold at least two dozen of these "like new, perfect TTIs" in the last 2 weeks.  Maybe she's cobbling them together, building Frankentools ... "it's alive, it's alive""
