Hammer Time (UNBREAKABLE Wrench/Hammer MT)
on: March 09, 2010, 04:36:27 PM
I nabbed these 2 hammer MT's for a bit of a song (princely sum of $16.39us :D :D). I was most keen on the UNBREAKABLE hammer/wrench MT. The UNBREAKABLE MT I have seen for sale on US Ebay normally well over $100us.
I love these old hammer MT's & one called UNBREAKABLE is just too hard too resist  :D :D :D :D.

PST for scale(apologies for crappy pic)

I love the name UNBREAKABLE but I reckon I could break it  :D :D. TOMAHAWK JUNIOR NO.9. I would love to see the largest & smallest Tomahawk's

Bob thinks the Unbreakable was made somewhere between 1900 & the 1940's   . The markings on the tool are G.M.Co.  L.I.CITY.N.Y. Not sure exactly were the tool was made & if the G.M.Co. is the same as the car makers

Initially I thought the spring sticking out of the base of the wrench was a anti rattle spring , but it is more than that  :o.
Note the adjuster locked into the grooves.

Push down on the wrench head & the spring allows the adjusting mech too disengage & rapid adjustment via sliding the wrench down. The rapid adjustment is only one way , that is it enables sliding wrench widening but not rapid clamping. Still pretty cool.

Tool is a lot smaller than I thought it was going to be. Not particularly comfortable & to be honest does not feel Unbreakable  :D :D. But boy do I like it  :D :D.

I am keen to give this oldie a go  :D :D, a bigger version would be mighty handy  :D :D. I have seen this type of tool described as a 'Roofers' tool & a 'Crate' tool.

The GANG  :D , I do like giving things a whack  :D :D

The Leatherman looks a bit out of place in that spread. Some pretty wicked utensils you have there  >:D

I like 'em both mate, the "tomahawk" is a lot smaller that it looks when you see it in hand.  Either that of you have hands like Andre the Giant. :D

Wacky :D

Mr Unbreakable looks like a crude old beast, is it smooth in operation?
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

I wish Gareth I might then find full sized SOG's easy to use  :P :D :D

Not the smoothest adjuster but a lot better than some modern shifters I have handled. I REALLY dislike shifting mechanisms with a lot of slop in them >:( >:(.

Smooth enough through the air too lop of a cheeky Pom's finger  :D :D.

If it was a wee bit bigger I reckon it would make a tops wreaking tool . My one has a lovely aged patina too  :D :D(not sure if the pics show it very well)

Hey, that thing is called a tomahawk? I think I remember seeing one of those in my dad's shop...I wonder if I could find it and take some pics of it. (Finding it would pretty hard though....he' a bit of a pack rat.)

I like the hammer wrench...much better than the knife wrench!

Turns out I was way off Mat. :-\ After a bit more digging, I was able to locate the patent for the "Combination Hammer And Wrench" which was applied for in 1954.

http://www.google.com/patents?id=Dn5yAAAAEBAJ&printsec=abstract&zoom=4&source=gbs_overview_r&cad=0#v=onepage&q=&f=false

And it seems that the G.M. Co. of Long Island City New York was a wrench and tool manufacturer. (no relation to General Motors)

Nice set of weird oldies you got there by the way!! :tu: :tu: Pretty soon they will be filming a video of you like they did the drill collector and the hammer collector guy. :D :D

I contacted the 'Collectors' show about my Multi's some time ago & they asked me too send pics. I can not decide if I want to be on the show & I have not sent pics. Should I run a poll  :P :D :D :D

I love the name UNBREAKABLE but I reckon I could break it  :D :D. TOMAHAWK JUNIOR NO.9. I would love to see the largest & smallest Tomahawk's

Mat have you seen any other Tomahawk numbers? Bigger or smaller, like a no. 10 or no. 8?

Bob still not sure about the TV programme    :D.

I would be more than a little keen to nab the smallest & the biggest Tomahawk's. I have seen these type of tools fairly frequently & just thought 'they look a bit natty, must get one, one day'. Now that I have my Tomahawk No.9. I will keep an eye out for the other sizes , ahh were does it end  ::) :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh :D

End? There is no end you silly bonker lover ::) ::) :D (if you complete your collection of tomahawk juniors, there probably is a full series of tomahawk seniors you will need to get!) :pok: :D

There was a chap a couple of weeks ago , he collected old printers , I do not think he was a counterfeiter though  :D.

I felt for him though as he had not kept up on his warehouse rent & one of the land lords 'Scrapper' a number of his vintage presses  :o >:( >:( >:((how lousy is that).
