SanRenMu Knife [SRM]
on: April 29, 2010, 04:16:02 PM
Anybody got any experience of this company? I'm guessing they are Chinese maker for the Dealextreme market

I got a GB9-707 model for a few quid :D

LOCKING MECHNISM            Locking Liner
BLADE STYLE & OPENER    Drop Point, Ambidextrous Thumb-Stubs
BLADE STEEL                    8Cr13MoV Stainless Steel (56-58HRC)
HANDEL SPEC                    Machined G10 Scales, High Pocket Clip, Lanyard Hole
BLADE LENGTH                    2.83''    72mm
OPEN                            6.54''    166mm
CLOSE                            3.64''    92.5mm
WEIGHT                            2.46oz    70g

For a newbie like me it looks quite good and is really lightweight.

SanRenMu is one of the best (if not the best) current Chinese knife manufacturing companies.
They also make knives for various American brands, Buck is only one of them.
The bladesteel they use is comparable with AUS8, maybe even a bit better, and it sharpens up to a nice crisp edge.
Their locks are also nice and dependable, but best is to buy a few to check out for yourself as they are very cheap.
I handled quite a few already but currently i own only this model 710, which is a Sebenza clone.

SanRenMu is the brand behind the Fenix promotional knives too. Some even say they do the Tenacious, but there is no proof for that. Still, the knives are OK, some are quite good. Based on the price I think they make some of the best bangs for the buck!

Doubt it, Sal said spyderco bought the plant that makes tenacious.

Really nice, where can I get a 710 online?

They're all over the place on eBay.  Played with a couple SanRenMus, gave 'em away.  Actually not bad quality, lockups are nice, mechanics are alright.  Where they tend to fall down is fit and finish around the handles, but a little high-grit sandpaper and elbow grease will fix that.  If you need an EDC that you know is going to get destroyed/confiscated, they're probably your best bet.

The steel is 8Cr13MoV, which as far as I can tell is pretty well a chinese version of AUS 8a with a significantly lower Nickel content - that should help at least a little bit with the corrosion problems that AUS 8 has.
