you would be surprised
on: September 11, 2010, 12:20:48 AM
At who you meet. I started a new job Thursday, and low and behold who do I work right beside? Master blade smith john fitch! We struck up a conversation at work today and he showed me a beautiful bowie knife he made. He even invited me to his shop when it cools down to let me make my own! He said he would show me how to forge the blade and every thing. I'm super stoked, he is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet.

I'm not surprised jim ;) and keep us posted please!

don't forget a "side by side" picture of you, him and the blade your making :tu:

when I get things sorted out here (one day) I plan on visiting a few makers here in Oregon,
we have many.

Very cool Jim Guy, I hope you won't forget your friends here at the forum once you start cranking out your own distinct line of fixed and folders..

Who knows, maybe a possible "discount" for members in the future perhaps??  :tu:

Cheers,
Serge

Not really. Have his show you how to reprofile stuff. Infact I actually have something to practice on. My Boker Cop tool. I can tell ya it needs a bunch of revamping to make the damn thing worth anything.

Silentsniper, you may not realize this but that image (and phrase) is used sarcastically, to imply that no one cares about what the original poster has to say. I'm going to assume it was an honest mistake.

Yeah he said he would show me how to forge my blade. I'm wanting something along the lines of cold steels laredo bowie. 10-10.5" blade with a sharpened clip point. I talked to him for awhile today at lunch about knives. We talked about all the ABS cutting competitions he has been to. He's a very interesting guy to have a conversation about knives with. He definitely knows his stuff.
