Japanese made multitools and knives
on: September 23, 2007, 06:01:51 AM
Are there Japanese made multitools and knives?

In the pre-industrial era of Japan their swordsmiths were well known for their art and technique in making samurai swords. Their differential tempering method or technique might have been passed down to the present generation and can be applied in multitool and classic knife making.

Thanking you in advance for any information you can share.

What I mean are multitools and knives that are made in Japan and with Japanese brand names.

Micro-toolclip is SOG brand. I don't know if it were manufacured in Japan.

I think a lot of the Kershaw knives are made in Japan. The parent company KAI is Japanese.

SOG is an American brand, but the ToolClips and Micros were made in Japan.  Many Spydercos are made in Japan as well, but like you said, they are also a US brand.

Kershaw is a silly one- Kai is a Japanese brand, but Kershaw is a US brand that sells Kai knives under it's own name in the US and other Western countries.  Kershaw is owned by Kai, so I don't know if that qualifies as a US brand or a Japanese brand or what!

I am certain there are some Japanese multitools out there, but they may not be exported like many things in Japan so we don't know much if anything about them.

Thanks for all the information guys. I didn't know that some multitools with famous USA brand names are made in Japan because I only have LMs, GERBERs and 1 S&W tool.
