Theres alot of mileage to be had with the maglite bodies, iv'e been thinking of doing something to my minimag AA that goes beyond just using the led convertion bulbs, but with an empty shell there is an infinite choice of led/driver/battery combinations to go with.
I liked the look of this one though:

The biggest problem i see with this one is adding a switch to it, as the original switch would need to be removed. A new tail cap that contains a small clicky might be the best option for functionality but it would have to be able to cope with quite a high current which small switches mostly can't.

Do you need to add a switch? The twist on/off to make /break contact is a perfect switch, nothing to go wrong, low resistance path.

Are you thinking to cut down to 1AA size?  :)

How about a switch from an e series surefire. They are small and can handle quite a bit of current. I know I run a awcr123 in mine and so far no problems.

A twist on/momentary on switch like the e series would be a nice feature and not too difficult to make but a simple twist on tail cap would be the easiest solution.
If i did cut it down to a single AA (14500) then that would allow me the freedom to choose the thread pattern to get the best twisty performance.
If i didn't cut it down and found a 3A/8.4V + driver then i would just remove the spring and install a brass puck into the original end cap.
Pictures of most of my work can be found on my Facebook Page.
Also have a look at my Shapeways Shop and SW Torch Shop for 3D printed items.

that would indeed be for the AA mini-maglite. :)

Another, but more expensive, option is this one from TerraLUX.  Though if you shop around you might find it for a better price.

Thanks :)  I'll look it up again now. The picture didn't provide much of a view of the flashlight, so I was wondering what that thing was..:D
