Well the problem with the China made products is simple. There is 2 Chinas. I know it sounds strange, but it is wierd how diff manufacturers can have diff results. Take Multitasker and the suspension. Two tools made in china but one is Fantastic anf the other rubbish. The Multitasker is a tank and very well built. Hopefully this is how they decided to go now. You can have some things made well overthere, but you need to as a manufacturer specify that is what you want.

You are preaching fancy steels to a guy that doesn't believe in the steel race.  I understand that some steels have better performance than others, but I'm happy if it takes a decent edge, cuts what I need to cut and is easily touched up.  Beyond that, labels be damned.

Well steels do make a difference in stuff, but not in my multis. I am actually happy having them with 420 or lesser like aus6. Multis arnt the do everything they are the thing you use because you are away from your rollaway. I carry premium steels in my knives. so I can live with the lesser steels in multis.

Oh I don't need super steel, just something decent, I always thought old Leatherman 420HC was fine and hoping Gerber is at least in that ballpark.  On pocket clip tools intended to kinda fill in for EDC knives though it might not be bad for Gerber to upgrade like Leatherman did with the CX stuff.  I'm not saying even 154CM mind you, but just something they could advertise like the 8Cr13 stuff or maybe AUS 8 or just something the knife buying public would recognize as a steel they have seen in say a Kershaw or a Byrd or Spyderco or what have you.  Don't have to be fancy, just something on par with lots of $20-$30 EDC folders out there that let you know what steel they are using.  Heck the Sandvik steels are cheap and easy to blank but really very good and fine grained, 13C26 for example.  I do lots of cardboard and tape cutting in my job, so I'll test out the Crucial and report back when I get a chance.

The blade steel seems like a 420 steel of some sort- it's definately not a super steel, but I haven't needed to touch it up yet.

Yay for the Gerber mystery steel.

Ebay = $42.98 shipped

I just ordered one, hoping it doesn't get loose like my green original did.......Is there a way to tighten then?  I have tried everything and the funky screws wont budge, ( even heated it with a torch to loosen the lock-tight...if any? ) I was hoping to tighten it or shim it.

The blade being loose would be an understatement....I can pitch the blade back and forth about 3/8".  It only had maybe 6-months of light use on it too.

Sounds like pivot has loosened up (no thread lock perhaps?) will it tighten down, or is it something else?

BTW welcome to the forum. :cheers:

The details haven't been worked out just yet (as far as I know) so send Travis a PM for now so he knows you want in.

I assume the pivot you speak of is the axis pin that the blade and driver bits turn on??  If so then yes.  I just took another look at it today and I can squeeze the exterior green plates closer together with my fingers, so Im still assuming its the screw that holds the one end together.....?  No I cant tighten it or loosen it, its nearly impossible to get a bite on the screws that hold it down.  I did use the correct torques driver, but it spun the teeth off the screw due to it not wanting to turn  :rant: .....Im about ready to drill the head off and put a stainless allen with a blind nut on the other side

Wish i knew about the group buy.....Id have waited a bit to save a few bucks

From this point on, for yours and everyone else's benefit, whenever a new tool is coming on the merket, contact Travis Autry for details on a potential group buy.  It is one of the projects we have planned for the Multitool.org Store.

Yeah that's what I'm talking about.  If it were me I'd leave it alone and send it in under your warrenty, Gerber have a pretty good reputation for getting these things sorted. :tu:

Got my new FAST on Friday.......much better than the first non-FAST I had from a year ago.  The newer designed tools are definitely much heaver/longer   Well see how long she hold up under normal use, and will be sending my old sloppy one out for warranty.

I picked up a Crucial F.A.S.T. last Saturday (I had to return to Fry's Electronics to pick-up some 1/4" security bits, and saw these near the BG stuff).  The first thing I noticed was the pliers were very gritty (like sand was poured into the pliers - I've not found that in any other MTs I have), and the phillips screwdriver wouldn't lock.  The knife blade opens with sufficient force to lock in position, but it doesn't have the "snap" of other AO knives I have.  I oiled all the tools with Break Free and worked the pliers;  Now the pliers are buttery smooth, and the phillips now locks (no change to the knife deployment).  It is a light-duty, minimalist tool, and it looks promising.  I've only used the blade (cut very well), but not the drivers or pliers.  Hopefully that will change soon.
