my thoughts on gerbers BG knife
on: March 31, 2011, 02:54:03 AM
Hey guys, I havent been on here much lately so I thought I would give my two cents worth on my latest item. My wife got me this knife so I thought I would give it a try. This is the newest model that they fixed the butt cap problem on. Im telling you I have beat the crap out of this knife, whatever gerber did they fixed the problems. I have chopped wood, hammered it in logs all the way to the hilt and pryed it out numerous times and hammered nails with it. All Ive been able to do to it is mess up the serrations a little bit. Its still fairly sharp after all of this, I did re do the serrations on it a little. Ive even started a few fires with the striker that comes with it. The only thing I can fault with it is the funky orange on it and the sheath. Overall I like the knife, and its fairly cheap priced too.

The reviews on BF said it was horrible.

Yeah, well, if ain't a $1200 Busse knife Bladeforums doesn't like it.

By all accounts the BG knives are of a perfectly reasonable quality, just, you know, jacked up another 15% because they've got Bear Grylls' name on them (or initials, whatever).

yeah theres not many good reviews out there on this knife. Unless I have a good one, I cant find a fault with  it. Im not saying its the greatest knife out there, I dont really even like gerbers. I know I have beat on this knife hard and have not broke the handle yet. Ive drove the knife into a oak log with a shop hammer up to the hilt and pulled it out about 10 times and the pommel is still tight as new.

Sounds like you put it through its paces and it did great.  Nice to hear positive feedback on a Gerber.  :tu:

I don't know about you but I sure in the hell don't own a busse. Esee for me. :) I wouldn't put that much money on a fixed blade that sees minimual use as mine do.

I only own about 3 fixed blades counting this gerber, my becker bk9 gets the most use. I just thought I would see how long the BG knife would hold up. I figured I would destroy it in short order, I was wrong.

Thanks for the thoughts Jim, it's good to hear Gerber got the cap issue sorted. :)
Be excellent to each other and always know where your towel is.
