How many firearms do you have?
on: November 09, 2007, 03:25:27 AM
So I was wondering how many firearms does everyone have.  Personally I own 16 different guns.  Most are .22lr.  I like handguns but I also love shotguns and rifles as well.

It is simple if you live here in the U.S.  Just go out and buy a gun and some ammo and find a range.  If you are just starting, try a .22lr New England Firearms makes a single shot .22 rifle that is highly accurate and costs around $100.  Or you could try a sporting goods store that carries used guns.  There are tons of great older .22 rifles for great prices.  I'd stay away from handguns in the beginning though.  Learn the rifle first and then go for a handgun next.

In the event of an Apocalypse, everyone head for Michigan.  Between Mikey's guns and everyone's multitools and SAKs, we should be pretty well the best equipped league in the New Order!

I have 12, but I only care for the pistols. The rifles and shotguns have to fend for themselves. With the exception of my 1911A1 .45 automatic , my 60's Colt Detective Special (I love movie guns, sorry!) and my old Colt Huntsman, my multitools get better care than the longguns. I kinda went bonkers when I got on the MT wagon and put the pistol thing aside.

It's already started :)  Ever heard of the European Union?  The North American Union (www.spp.gov) will be here soon, and the Asian Union is just getting started.  How's that for a New World Order? >:D

Well, I wasn't sure if this counted or not, but I went with zero...
Don't have any mostly because I've never had the chance to use them much and in my family I didn't grow up in the country or hunting, though I'm not against either one.  ;) Now that I'm living on a farm I'm toying with the idea of setting up an archer target and getting a bow, but now its winter...  :(

Shooting and firearms are a great hobby.  Besides, what is better than guns and a lot of them.  I too like blackpowder guns.  I have built several from kits.  My next blackpowder firearm will be a flintlock.  I am thinking about building a Northwest trade gun.  I am going to see if I can find one in .58 cal, smoothbore of course.  That way I can shoot patched round balls or shot loads.

Have you ever been to the blackpowder rendezvous in Friendship,Indiana? At one time Civil War re-enacting caught my fancy, now portraying a Longhunter is more fascinating to me.

I have not been to that particular rendezvous but I have been to several civil war and Revolutionary war re-enactments.  The era that I find myself more and more interested in is the French and Indian war period.

In my opinion (and I might find quite a few that disagree with me here) modern muzzleloading rifles dont qualify as "primative weapons" to me.  Here in Ohio, where we use shotguns for deer hunting a modern muzzleloader way outperforms the shotgun or traditional muzzleloader.  It is the closest thing to hunting with a rifle that you can legally do in Ohio.  Pennsylvania has the right idea (except for the using round ball and flintlock only restriction) for a "primative" firearms season.  I think that a suitable law would be no-inlines during primative seasons.  Some of the inline guns approach the velocity of some cartridge guns so in Ohio, why not just use rifles in certain calibers like 45-70, 30-30, .45LC, 35 Rem, .44 mag you know, slow bullets that have a lot of drop?  You can now use a handgun as long as it is a straight walled cartridge why not use a rifle or carbine chambered for a pistol cartridge.

I believe that the real life hunting dogs would probally laugh at their owners if they could.  Especially the bird dogs when they are hunting pheasant.  In case anyone here has never been pheasant hunting with a dog there is no reason to miss a shot unless the bird flies in a direction that would pose an unsafe shot.  You know the bird is going to flush, the dog flushes the bird on command, you have your gun at the ready, and pheasants just seem to hang there for a few seconds because they are so slow.  It is like shooting a stationary target with a shotgun.

I used to have a GP 100.  Very fine revolver.  My gun had the 3" barrel instead of the 4."  I did have a special grip but I changed it back because the original grip seemed to fit my hand just fine and the aftermarket grip seemed to catch on my clothing too much.  I had a lot of fun with that gun.  I would go to the range and shoot the steel targets from 30 to about 300 yds.  It took a good shot aimed some 3feet high to hit the 300yd target but it was a blast.
