Thanks Muddysuki, should look even better finished.

Your right, the boot placement is not indicative to a good waterprrof seal, especially under pressure.

The render isn't too clear as the boot wasn't modelled hollow as it should be and intersects with the switch unit, but it shows how the boot is held in place by the switch and it's retaining ring.

If pressure is applied to the boot from outside thje boot will deform and possibly compress away from the metal surface it rests on, creating a gap. Therefore alot of compression needs to be applied to the boot, through the switch by the retaining ring. This could cause damage to the boot leading to failure.

THis has worried me for a while so i decided to redesign the tail/switch assembly so that the boot sits on the outside of a solid metal surface with a threaded ring compressing it's base from outside so that external pressure will only force it onto the metal surface harder creating a tighter seal.

When i've done some more work on it i'll do some more renders to show the difference.

I know i said i'd make a simple tailcap but instead i just pressed on with the original.
The torch should now be water-tight although the switch and qtc system are still missing.

If you were wondering what the smooth part of the tail is for it's a clip point to allow the mounting of the torch to a frame.

Thanks guys, perhaps more light saber than sonic screwdriver though.

Just finished making the QTC system and i'm happy to say it works well, although there is still some fine adjustment to be made. After that it just leaves the installation of the tritium vials and then this torch will finally be done.

The tail assembly.

The QTC pill carrier made from brass and macor ceramic.

The pills are isolated, by the pins, from any rotation force which could damage them and are only subjected to compression between the two plates.
The grub screw in the middle of the assembly allows the qtc to be bypassed to achieve full beam, it also allows adjustment to be made to the point when full beam will occur as qtc pills age and become less firm over time.

Yep, everything i've made that's worth seeing will be there, really looking forward to it.

I should have made it as a mega thrower with a big aspherical lens and maybe a green tint LED so that on misty nights (or underwater) i can go 'Shwooum'  to my hearts content.

Thankyou Jock i shall consider this LIKED.

As promised some comparison images of the tail cap seal.

Ver. 1

Ver. 2

The new design comresses the switch boot with a nut ring and when the boot is under pressure it is forced more firmly onto the solid metal backing increasing the seal.
