I know, I know....sorry guys :(  If I could upload from my cell, I could take some pics later, but that doesn't seem to work.

Its all good just busting chops.

I wait weeks for stuff to arrive here a few days is of no matter.

Oh I know, it just stinks that I can't simply upload a pic through Tapatalk.  It never used to be a problem, but sometime in the last few months, that changed for some reason.

So in other words it would be faster to use a Polaroid camera and mail it to me?

Simply go to menu --> Open in browser (or Web View and or whatever it's called) and in the mobile theme when you click reply there is the +Attachment options. Or you can use the photobucket app and upload the pics to your photobucket account and just paste links in the posts. Better than using the crapatalk photo service that's, well, crap. We have lots of threads that are now ruined due to members using it cause they broke/deleted all the old pictures they had stored. Most of the old Metro builds and mods are without pictures now cause of it.

I scanned in the blade and liner lock from a 111mm for fun.  Notice how much beefier the blade tang is for the lock area.

Question.

So if you were to Aloxify a 91mm, lets say a Master craftsman. When it was done would the resulting SAK be heavier or lighter?

Would be a slight bit slimmer though right?

Have not seen any pics of 91's you have made for people yet. Thought it would have been very popular.

Have you thought about getting a 3D printer to try out things like liner lock designs before you invest in getting them cut with 'real' materials? Don't know if that is a workable idea.

One of my local DIY shops has a 3D printer that you can use if you supply the design files, so you might not even need to buy one if you can find somewhere that has one you can use.

I think it would way about the same.  Plastic and aluminum are both pretty light.  The main benefit is dropping the outer liners since those are needed for structural rigidity on plastic SAKs, but on a Al or Ti scaled one the scales provide that.

Ive got a list of people wanting the 91s, I just havent got to them yet.  I still have 20-30 93mm alox mods in the list and first come first serve.

What I should have done is just cut out the shape with a jewelers saw and made sure that worked, then scanned that and made the file.  I was in a rush and just assumed too much though.  Ver 2 looks much better though and I also added jimping on the top for the thumb rest.  The force vectors are at much better angles so Im comfortable giving it another try.  :D

Liner locks are proven tech though, and shouldn't be that difficult to make work.  The problem with 3D printing something like that is that the liner lock relies on very close fitting parts, and the 3D printed part may not have been able to achieve the close fit needed anyway.  Depends on the process and the accuracy of the printer, I guess.

You should always try to leave prototypes 'metal safe' - if the lock tab on the liner had been closer to the pivot then a little filing could have made it work.  Very difficult to add material to things, much easier to take it away.

I managed to get 2 93mm mods together today.  One tool packed stock scaled 2 layer and an OD green condensed farmer with scissors.  :D

Looking forward to checking out the pics when I get off of work tonite.

On another note I have been thinking more about custom SAK action and was wondering something.

How many layers do you guys think is about the limit for something that will have one of them Syph pocket clips?

Don't imagine you would want it to big since it sits sideways when clipped to your pocket.

I have a clip on a regular farmer and that's three, I'd say one or two more layers are doable, it also depends on how thick too.

I thought that is what we were talking about. Thickness I think is the question here.

Unless I am confused?

I can not be the first person to come up with this. I am guessing you already do it and I just missed it somehow.

Titanium 93mm Syph custom.

BAM, that just happened!

Forgot another question I had.

Could a awl and flathead/cap lifter go opposite the inline Phillips?

Idk, maybe I'm confused  your asking how wide is too wide? The farmer off the shelf is three layers, I put a sticky self apply clip on mine and I think it's fine, and maybe one or two "more" layers would be ok, but it also depends how thick the layer is, like a pair of pliers vs a saw.. Hers a crappy pic of mine

Eagerly awaiting the dawning of the age of the locking pioneer!  Can you show pics of your prototype?  Curious minds want to know.

The most obvious thing ( in hindsight of course ) was that I forgot to raise the thumb grip area and add jimping.

It felt a bit 'uncomfortable' trying to work in the garage yesterday even with my tiny heater going which usually makes it barable.  Well! The news man this morning said we had the coldest day ever measured here in the last 80 years of tracking.  -34.1 C (-30 F)  That is cold.  I havent felt cold like that since I lived farther north.  Hello global warming where are you !?!

So... Im looking for a better heater today.  I did have a gas line run in the summer thinking that would be the route to go, but they are about 1200 for a gas heater.  The cheap part of me just wants to tough it out for another couple months.. we'll see.  :D

I just got my Urban Pioneer from Syph. I can't post a picture right now. But I have to say it's perfect - he improved on the Victorinox quality. The tools have fantastic snap and I think he even sharpened the blade. I'll definitely want others.
