Chrissy,  No worries, I just want to make sure it doesn't get stuck in limbo.  I am going to email them today.

As for the Rebar, I think Al mentioned an awl and scissors missing.  Just to clear the air the rebar does have an awl.

Here are some thickness shots with the blast.

Nice shots!

Any chance someone could do some photos comparing it to a Spirit?

Or does that violate the LM forum rules  ;)

The Rebar compares favorably to the Spirit on my utility vs. size/weight scale.  Before the Rebar, the Spirit was #1 on that scale (for me).  In other words, lots of utility in the smallest usable form factor.  I have to evaluate the Rebar more thoroughly, but it is certainly a contender - and for me the primary contender - to the Spirit when it comes to utility vs. size/weight.

Now imagine those "juicy" plier heads in a TTi... I do agree the 'regular' plier section does look oddly smallish.

 Nice shot PN!

I am unsure as to whether the smaller gripping section of the pliers will make a difference.  I haven't had to grip anything like a bolt head with it yet.

Oh yeah, I'm liking this thing more and more!

Thanks for the pic powernoodle.

One more question.  On most of the inside opening LM tools I've used, like the Blast and the Wave's drivers, they are a real pain for me to deploy.  Real nail breakers.  How do the tools come out on the Rebar?  About the same as a Blast?

It's a new Leatherman to add to my collection, so I will snatch one up regardless but I'm struggling with this one.  I have a ST300 and a TTi.  Between those two, where will the Rebar fit in.  The TTi blows it away in terms of utility, I mean being Canadian I am always making heavy use of the Robertsons included in the flat bit kit.  If I'm working on heavier stuff or lots of wire cutting/crimping, I'll also have the ST300 (or Sog Powerlock).  For these jobs I want leverage which you get with the bigger handles on these tools.

I wonder just when you would reach for this tool over the ST300.  What jobs would you use a smaller ST300 for?

Agreed. That does look like a very pocketable tool. I'd certainly be interested in hearing what people think of them after a year or so once the novelty has worn off and they've had a good workout

Thanks for pics!  :salute: ...btw is there some obvious reason why there is so much room before sharp section of that blade starts? IMO it looks a bit weird.

The indent is where the blade rests on the lock and it acts as a stopper so the edge doesnt get nicked while in the closed position.

This is about a 0.5" nut, more or less.  The Rebar's "regular plier" jaws, though truncated, provide adequate purchase. Note how the replaceable cutters are 2 of the 5 contact points in this example.

The Rebar won't be easier to use than the ST300, but it will be much easier to carry than the ST300.

For those with smaller hands, yes, yes it will be. But for me, the big thing will be portability- I have full sized pliers, wrenches and screwdrivers in my truck, and all the same and more in my toolboxes at home. The Rebar will be in my bag of tricks.

I've been carrying the Rebar for the past few days (without sheath) in a thigh pocket on my 5.11 pants, and have never noticed its there.  I don't think I would be able to say the same thing with a Supertool 300.

...thanks - thats pretty obvious now when you pointed it.  :salute: Actually it's maybe a good to have that space so you can place your index finger on it when there's need to be extra careful with cutting something. On those situations I usually keep the another handle open to make it more knife-like.

I guess it could be used as a choil, but I would slice myself open for sure if I tried it.

As for the Rebar being used over the ST300, it will get used for the same tasks the original PST did over the original Supertool.  Or the Pulse over the ST200, or the Blast/fuse over the Core, or the Wave over the Surge.  You get my point.

Some folks like a smaller full sized tool, I'm one of them.

I received my Rebar today from The Swiss Shop. :mail:  I was a bit leery of buying it from them but called first to make sure they told me they had them in stock.  My first impression of the Rebar is.....small.  I had seen several pictures of it before I saw it in person but was still a bit surprised.  It almost should be classified as a Pocket Tool instead of a Full-Size Tool.  That said, I like it and it will be another nice addition to my collection.  I would have liked to see the saw replaced with scissors but that is just me.

I must confess that, ever since I saw this topic, I've started getting doubts about the REBAR, don't get me wrong, I think it looks great but ... I've gotten so used to carrying my ST300 that I don't see the point in getting the same tool in a smaller size.  Also, with my 193 cm I'm quite a big guy and I find that the ST300 is a perfect fit for me.  Whenever I use my old style Wave these days I get the feeling that it's to small and thin for me ...

On the other hand, because I like my ST300 so much, it seems only normal that I should get the "smaller version" also ... So when I see the REBAR at my local outdoorshop, I'll probably end up taking it home with me ::).
