The supplier said the new design is no problem to produce and infact production is ongoing at the moment.

Hi everyone!
I'm new here, but I have been trying to build custom saks now for a few months and thought about solutions for the pins alot.
Like most people here I don't seem to be able to peen without heavy collateral damage...

My next try: I have a source for brass tubes with correct sizes to cut threads into them.
I will try to do 3mm tubes with M2,5 and 2,5mm tubes with M2 thread.

If someone already has some experience with this method of building saks or with small threads in brass tubes in general, please let me know!

I will keep you posted how it goes...

Cheers

I was thinking about using tubes as well. However, the norm these tubes are made after gives the holes a relatively large diameter. When you additionally apply a threading, the remaining material will be very thin.

Think about it: 3mm outer diameter and you're forced to cut a 2.5mm threading. This leaves you .25mm of material thickness. When using solid brass material, you can tap a 1.6mm hole and cut a 2mm threading which leaves you with double the thickness.

I don't want to discourage you, but keep this in mind. Maybe you should switch to harder materials like steel trying this tube method. Of course, the thread drilling will also be a lot harder then.

Steel or titanium would be groovy. One could do hallow rivets SI style!

Speaking of the hollow SI rivets... those are BIG.  They are at least 3.5 mm or bigger as a my standard 1/8 inch pivots are way too small to use with the tools.  I got some soldier scales from steve with the large holes on the one end, and I can use them, but they will need some brass bushings pressed in to take my 1/8 pivots.
PM me or email sakmodder [at] gmail . com if you are looking for custom SAK work.

All of this is true :-)
My thought was, that you will fill this thread with screw, so the material strength doesn't matter...
Unfortunately, I only found 3mm with 2.1mm inner diameter and 2.5mm with 1.6mm inner diameter.

I will try it anyways since it costs me under $10 to try and will keep my eyes open to tubes with thicker walls...

Well well well, the supplier has informed me that the will be sent out by DHL on the 25 from China to Taiwan.  This is a couple days later than we had agreed upon and a little tight with my current schedule, but it should be ok.

Checked for some 1.4 countersunk screws today at a local RC shop.
I could only find flathead and phillips. No torx at all. :s And damn those screws are delicate. :D

For those with an order please send me your paypal address and physical address.  It seems like the goods will arrive here mid next week, which is getting tight on my Feb 2 flight, so everything will be a bit compressed if I am to send things to the EU before I head off to the USA for CNY.

Once I have the goods I can weight everything and have a good idea about how much shipping will be so I can issue an invoice.  I asked the suppliers for some pictures so hopefully I can post them soon.

Cheers

Alright, I'll take all Germany (plus Denmark and Suisse) parts and distribute them further.

It would be nice if you could break down the order so we can see what we're dealing with.

... at a local RC shop.

Wrong place. IT-Store/Repair center. Have a look for silver-metallic or even black Torx-screws of old hard disks or other pc components. Old notebook screws of IBM/Lenovo or HP are very smooth. ;-)

I plan to go to this place on Saturday to check out their screws and wares:

http://www.feng-lin.com.tw/product-detail-111684.html

I will also discuss with them the possibility of making pivots in the future, it is always better to have options!

Please let me know if you have any requests for screws so I can check.

Cheers

For the 2.2mm pivots we need M1.4 screws, countersunk style. For the material I'd say as strong as possible, probably stainless steel. I'd love to have hex pattern.

I couldn't find any screws of this style though.

Still not sent as far as I know. Getting cold feet actually as I will be leaving for a few weeks in a couple days...

I have found a local supplier that can do it, so I am considering submitting a ticket to Paypal to get the ~$300 back. If there is no news by end of workday today (in a few hours) I might just pull the plug. Three times of over promising is pretty much three strikes.

They're chinese?

Write them a mail. And tell them, "that eventually [better say a concrete date] you have a trip which leeds them next to their factory and you'll visit them to look 'why' is there no progress."

No joke, that works. I was very afraid, that such thing could happen. But there seems to be a bigger problem. Since in that culture it's not common to say "We got a problem." Or "It is impossible." But as you spent some days there you're familiar with that. I'm sure. ;)

Dispute posted!  We shall see what happens.  Maybe it will be sent at the last moment?

There is a very capable local firm that can execute the fabrication, so if the Chinese supplier cannot do so, I can work directly with the local company (which would be great).

Cheers

The Chinese supplier is hemming and hawing about how he will get me the goods, but it is actually too late.  Time to escalate the claim and get my ducets back!

Next time I won't order $300 worth sight unseen.  Supplier risk and (to be honest) I don't know if I can move them one I do.  136x3 pivots is to many for me!

Woot, got a full refund from Paypal- make sure to use PP if you are dealing with Chinese suppliers- that way you can get your money back if things get squirrelly!

Next weekend I hope to go back to the local screw place that claimed they could fab the pivots- I prefer local as there is much less risk.
