Yes well I imagine the first rule is to closely scrutinize any teenager that is following you around rubbing a smartphone over your pocketed areas....

My wife picked up a Nexus 7 today and I've had a little chace to play with it.  So far it seems like a nice device but I can't say I'll be rushing out to buy one myself.  I just don't quite see the need for one in my life.

OK, I may have one in my life, but that still doesn't mean I need it there. :P

For me, it's an excellent source of media consumption: internet radio--so I'm taking my radio out of my office, ebooks--so much more convenient than going to the library, I'm reading tons more now, internet--more portable than my laptop and MUCH easier to read and post from than my phone, movies

It also functions as GPS with LARGE screen and I can actually work documents, if need be (simply not possible on my phone).

It's biggest advantage over the iPad is portability.  The fact that I like the interface better is just a bonus.

Which version of the Nexus did you get Nate? I'm starting to think maybe I might have been happier with the LTE model so I don't have to keep connecting through my phone.

Yeah that's what I got too. Overall I think it was the better choice but sometimes it bugs me that I need to use another device to use this one.  Not enough to get another bill each month mind you...

Since they can link via bluetooth, and since I always have my phone with me, it's no big deal.

Unlimited data plan helps too. :D

Yeah I have my phone with me all the time as well, I just worry about killing the battery on it using it as a hotspot.

The display eats way more power than just the hotspot being on (at least in my experience).  With foxfi, the screen can be off and it runs perfectly.

In truth, most of the time I want to use it as a hot spot I'm near a power source anyway- most of the time I'm on a site at work and in or near the Jeep.

So, I just hit buy on a Nexus 7 :D
Managed to pick up a refurb unit with 12months guarantee for a good price.

Decided after 7 months of school that having something like this would actually be really useful. I lugged around my 13" laptop this last weekend, and it was heavy and unnecessary! Essentially I'm after a reader which can do all the other basics too. Went for wifi only and picked up a swivel case thing which can stand in either orientation. Hopefully this will be perfect for my needs :tu:

If you're planning on much typing, I find a compact BT keyboard extremely handy (I'm using an Apple version I had after ditching the Ipad).

I find it very easy to type on my nexus7, especially compared to my Motorola Defy...

So, what about the apps chaps? :D

I'm totally new to Android and will be looking for recommendations.
