MP400 Lanyard , possible solution
on: February 02, 2013, 12:30:37 PM
Just had this as a thought  The little hole that is through the frame and pliers when the tool is closed could be used to thread paracord through. It's 100% secure and won't slip out due to the nature of the design.
My only stumbling block is you can't pass anything bigger then 550 para so it rules out and fixings or attachments on the cord  :-\  so its difficult to see how you could best use this feature apart from just tying the tools to yourself to make sure its secured.Anyone else like to take up the flame and see what you can come up with?  May work with an MP600 but not sure about versions with replaceable wire cutters.

I'm wondering if a super flat one from a LM Blast might fit into the MP400.  Might have a little look. :)

It fits quite well actually. :tu:  This is very quickly thrown in place and I'd not keep it there as it's forcing the file over so as it's now rubbing against the pliers when you stow them away.  But still a good proof of concept I think. :)

Just shuffled it around a little and it's now sitting on the other side of the file and not causing the 'fouling' issue.  Other than the fact it doesn't lock in place (and who needs a locking lanyard ring?) it looks almost designed for it.  Cheers for the inspiration Dunc, I've got another feature added to my PM400 mod.

You seeing this Gerber?  Lanyard rings really don't have to be 4mm thick. ::)

Another though would be to use a claw clip to attach a lanyard.  Where I put it means that you'd have to remove it before use, but it does mean you could secure it to yourself when not in use.

Now your talking Gareth  :D the ring is a great mod but I'm looking for some kind of method to attach to equipment , I'm going to explore the claw clip route a bit more  :tu:

The small clip looks good :tu:

I'd probably use something like a 20-25mm McGizmo so there's no trigger to accidentally open. However, that makes it a tiny bit more difficult to open when you do want to.

I also recently picked up a couple of nice steel carabiners from ebay which are now on my keys. I'll try and sort some pics... techy things are playing up at the moment!
