Got my dad his first MT.
on: March 05, 2013, 08:05:37 AM
After seeing mine and one I got for my brother, my pops wanted me to get him one. He wanted something to carry in his bag, and be for just in case situations. I let him handle my Octane, Mp400, charge tti, and skeletool. After handling those he decided on an Octane. He received it on Saturday and has been playing with it since, and seems to enjoy it. The octane has easily became my favorite MT and glad he decided on one as well.

Good choice for a first tool. I have been carrying my Octane everyday since I got it (about two weeks ago) and I love it, for the most part. The philips driver is weird, but other than that I love it.

I have been thinking of getting my Dad a MT, but I think he thinks they are gimmicky. My Mom and Dad have a travel trailer and do a lot of camping, and I think a good fullsize or heavy duty MT would save space in the cramped living environment of a trailer. I just can't decide what to get him. I love my Wave and even toy with the idea of getting him the Cadilac of Leathermans, a Charge. Then I think that since it will be replacing a tool kit, maybe I should go whole-hog and get him a Surge or ST300  ???

Then again, a Spirit X is a tempting choice as well. I just don't like the plier head

What he said.  My father was a combat engineer after working the railroads and growing up in logging camps and on farms.  He's a very hands on guy and he now lives in a cottage deep in the woods so he appreciates good knives and tools.

So after about 6 months of good use out of the octane my dad finally realized it had wire cutters haha. Mind you, my pops is very handy and has a great selection of tools (I know because I dip into them a lot), but he's just new to multi tools. Because he seemed very excited about the cutters, and because he carried a cheap Chinese made mt in his car, I decided to give him a Rebar for Xmas. The first thing he noticed this time was the heavy duty wire cutters and instantly loved it. I've seen him use it a good amount and still finds jobs for the octane. He's really enjoying them both, especially since I reminded him about the octane's package opener.
