I've been lucky to get some new Black Chrome Vanadium PWs  :woohoo:

Just took some quick pics...

The machining appears to be finer than on the Stainless version I have.

:hatsoff:   ...what's everyones experience about the yellow paintings on the imprints? Do they hold up well?
Even if not, it will not hold me back from using it though  :)

My daily carry is the stainless version, but I think Poncho’s has seen pretty heavy use and the yellow markings still look OK in the pic above.  Perhaps he’ll be along to comment.

So far the yellow lettering is holding up on mine :salute: it hasn't seen heavy use yet but I have used it some and no complaints so far :D :tu:

I am wondering if the chrome vanadium versions are any tougher. I went with CV/tool steel because that was my opinion (and you could still find the stainless ones easily at the time).

I've used the crap out of mine (including jobs involving stuck, overtightened, and rusted fasteners), and it's not hurt it one bit.

I have the stainless version, and have carried and used it for years, including putting all the force I could manage on it.  Never had any damage or issues.

Are the tool steel versions tougher and or stronger than the stainless ones?  Perhaps, but as a practical matter I don’t believe you could damage either in actual use, unless you were superhumanly strong or used a cheater or sledgehammer or something on it.

Chrome Vanadium should be "tougher".  My SS is going on ten years?  No problems with it or the teeth.  I'd imagine as Nate says if a cheater bar was used or it was hammered there could be issues.

 :hatsoff:  Gadget Guy

I find them a really good addition to a plier based MT.

Btw, do we have a timeline of the Pocketwrench?
I assume the PW II came out in the late 90s.

This is what I have pieced together from the web, though I suspect others know more about its history.

From Donald Burke's Linked In page, it appears that he was manufacturing and selling the Pocketwrench in 1991 to 1996. I have also seen a reference to a trademark on the name "Pocketwrench" dating to 1991.

Wescon Products Company filed for a trademark on the name "Pockerwrench II" in 1996. They also owned the trademark for "Latshaw Tools". The trademark on "Pocketwrench II" ended in 2006.

Finally, I believe David (or somebody else here) wrote that around 2006 Burke started making and selling the Pocketwrench II again. I believe that it was from this point that some were made for Snap-On Tools and Volvo. I have seen pictures of PW IIs in the newer packaging with Snap-On and Volvo branding.

That concludes what I think I know about the PW II  :D

So we said 1996 for the Pocketwrench II under Latshaw. I found that here too. Filed 27th Sep. 1996 under Latshaw  :salute: ...

But then I also found the following pics from an old eBay listing via Worthpoint...

... so 1994 and BurkTek for the Pocketwrench II ?

As soon as the Skeletool challenge is done, the PW2 will pair nicely with my ST300 :dd:
