I was just watching this:
Not my first choice for a way to live, but certainly some cool ideas there. You could probably incorporate a number of these ideas into any home to maximize space.

I really love this kind of stuff, a bit in the same way that I love MT's... It's the amount of thought that goes into getting as much functionality as possible from a small space
I think the designers of this kind of apartment, and the designers at a company like Leatherman, are ultimately doing the same thing

Well, not for the chaotic person
Reminds me a bit of the movie Fifth Element.
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

I thought the same thing! Just add in a plastic wrapped mattress and two big yellow dots on the wall and you are set!

that is a really great apartment and such an interesting way to live. ive seen other NYC apartments that were basically 200-500 sq ft spaces transformed into very livable spaces. where i live people have very large homes and ive always admired these types people who live a very enjoyably in such a small space. it certainly does come down to maximizing the given space with smart design.

From what I've heard, that's actually considered to be a sizeable apartment in NY. It probably rents for $4,000 a month. There, you really need to maximize your space unless you're a millionaire...

I am glad we are better off here- the small apartment in my building is 800sq ft and the other two are somewhere around 900sq ft.
Hell, I need almost 400sq ft in the washroom alone!

I thought I was the only person that liked this kind of stuff.
And just FYI, the Kirsten Dirkson youtube account (faircompanies.com, of which the linked video below is one) has a TON on small, interesting housing options, including a long documentary on 'tiny houses'.

It's amazing what you can get in a small space with a little ingenuity. Here's what I incorporated into the design for my boat, to fit into a space approximately
half
that of the apartment shown (35ft x 6ft cabin):
Kitchen / Galley
4.5m (15ft) of worktop/cupboard space (including fitted hob and sink)
4ft wide wood burning cooking range
Cloakroom cupboard (wet locker)
Lounge / Saloon
Desk
Drinks cabinet with bookcase over
TV Cabinet
Small multifuel stove
Sofa that converts to single bed
Bedroom
4ft wide bed (narrowboat double)
Wardrobe
Bathroom
Washing machine with airing cupboard over
Toilet
4ft Hip Bath (shower over)
Vanity unit
OK I didn't have the floor space he has, but this was designed to be a functional living space not a pleasure craft. Although the fit out is not complete, I have decided I am happier with bricks and mortar, but am in talks with another guy who is hoping to buy my boat to live on sometime early next year
Even though my boat is an older hull (1987), the reason he wants mine is the amount of function there is in the space provided.

I'd kill for that stuff, my apt at the moment is about 333 sqft (31 m2)

Visiting friends with tiny flats makes me realise how lucky I am. I've got a 2 bedroom cottage, it's not the most fantastic thing ever but it's perfectly functional. A friend of mine had a flat in London, 1/3 the size of my cottage and paying three times the rent
A different friend has just moved in to a shared flat, again in a reasonably central bit of London. His room isn't much bigger than the bed and he's paying about the same as my rent for a whole house to myself! Norfolk FTW.
