Suspiciously cheap New LM Charge TTis (new sellers with zero feedback)

  • Apparently it is possible to have too many tools;)
When I saw this I immediately thought of the old warning:  "If it seems too good to be true, watch out !"

There seem to be a number of sellers currently offering these at low (or very low) prices.

eg $45.00  http://www.ebay.com/itm/251500655266

All seem to be offering the same thing (TTi plus accessories), all have recently joined eBay (around 2 May 2014), all have zero feedback, all are supposedly in the US but are posting from Hong Kong (but one seller wants to charge Washington State buyers an extra 9.5% local sales tax ? ! ? ! )

I have no proof that these are anything but legitimate, but am not willing to risk my $$$ with all these warning bells ringing inside my head.  Is anyone else braver (a.k.a. more foolhardy) than me ?

"Caveat Emptor"  (buyer beware)

Ya its pretty hard to trust a no feedbacker.  Id skip that one!

I bought an MT from a seller with one feedback last week, and I havent got it yet, but he said it shipped.  So we'll see.  It was an older but new condition tool for $30 so I had to take a chance.

That's what I was thinking. Very tempting, but scams usually are.  :D

Could very well be legit, but there are to many red flags.

Not if the seller immediately removes the money from their account.  PayPal won't give you any of PayPal's money, only refund from the seller's account, and if there's no money there (which there usually isn't if its a scam), you won't get anything.  Going on what I've read about scams written by buyers who have been dudded.

Zero/very low feedback by itself won't stop me from buying from a seller, but combined with other signs that make me nervous it will.

Twice now Ive had the seller never delivered issue, and went through the PP claim process.  It was really hassle free to get my money back, BUT, it took many months.  So while you are protected via paypal, you will pay in time waiting.

  • It is what it isn't.
With the seller in Hong Kong, it could be a fake MT or if not but also would take a month to get it if you do get it! :)

Even more suspicious:
The description used for this auction is EXACTLY the same as another, legitimate user Northwest-Outdoor.  Word-for-word even down to their guarantee and return policies going back in to Washington.

I'm avoiding this one.

And now one is offering new MUTs for only $59.00   ???

But if you look at the shipping info they are both based in the US and using FedEx but also shipping via China post or Hongkong Post air mail service.

WARNING BELLS RINGING VERY LOUDLY HERE   !!!!!!!

However, if your PayPal account is linked to your credit card, especially if it's a PayPal credit card, your credit card will protect you.  :salute:

This one has just sold* 3 Charge TTis.  "You're a braver man than I, Gunga Din."

sold* = taken money for (and maybe will deliver the goods)

Sorry, I must have left off the link, and now it (and all the others like it) are no longer on ebay, so maybe ebay figured out what was happening and removed the listings.

Doesn't it just wind up costing eBay for frauds like this since they gotta pay out with the buyer protection? It seems to be in their best interest to put a stop to such scams.

And still the scammers try it on   >:(

This looks very suspicious to me, this is for a new LM wave (and as usual, zero feedback as a seller):

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/172169850746

They seem to have copied this listing from a legitimate seller:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/271268670864

I've reported the suspect listing to eBay as possibly fraudulent, so we'll see what they do about it.

That's not even a particularly fantastic price... Wave's go for $40 all the time.

I'm thinking this is a scam. I don't trust sellers who don't show original pictures of the product.

Also looks like the original TTI listing was removed

I hear people worry about this all the time, but as someone who sells things on ebay, let me tell you that's impossible for someone with no feedback. There's a system in place on ebay where your money is held in limbo until certain conditions are met, unless you meet criteria that a new seller has no chance to meet. Long story short, the only way to screw yourself out of money in this scenario is to leave them positive feedback before the item arrives, which may trigger the money to be released. Plus ebay has their own protection against scams that's more reliable than Paypal's.
