My theory is that the last two digits are the year of manufacture and the 087 means it’s made in the U.S. My theory has never been confirmed but if you look at the serial number on any of the Gerber products that are made in China they start with different 3 digits. All my U.S made ones like the fastball , Strongarm etc all start with 087

Dunc, I actually saw that online.  I thought the letter or the digits preceding 18 were the month.

When the numbers first appeared in 2014 they were longer and I think they did include the month , but the 087 has always been present on all U.S made Gerbers since 2014 , I’ve attached some pics of my U.S made Gerbers but the last pic is a Chinese made Remix model , notice also the yellow EZ out rescue is made in 2014 and has a longer number
