Amazing.  Would you mind giving a bit more information about your collection please? I'm assuming it's all factory alox knives up to a certain date, but don't know enough about the older models to know for sure.

My goal was to cover a certain foto from sakwiki out of a catalog, called "1970s Victorinox Alox Scaled Knives Catalog Page". Those models shown were the most common, all factory knives, no mods. Some models are not on this foto, also some specialities like with or without keyring. The tang stamps are not all the same, some are elinox, others are vssr. I think there are many people out there that can tell you more about those alox knives, I`m not really an expert on this. Alox knives are not my main goal.

I can tell you how victorinox made the foto. They cut the bases of all the blades, so there was no tension on the backspring. So it was easy to drap the knives with all the blades for a good foto. For me that was really difficult, because with backspring tension, you can`t put the blades the way shown on the foto without tricks. You see that on the alox ripped lumberjacks. You should never open the blades the way I did it for the foto, the backspring could easily break.

Nice work, Ulli.  I see what you mean about the backsprings, how in the catalogue page you can't see any of them sticking out as you'd expect where the tools are part-opened.  I wonder if they simply assembled the knives without springs.  I'd guess that should be possible.  I suppose they'd need a spacer in the middle if they peened the middle rivet, but since we can only see one side then maybe they didn't even do that.

The marlinspike looks different  :P

Due to lighting maybe.  On Ulli's picture we see the hole in the marlinspike, but on the catalogue photo, the recess around the hole is more visible.

I've always thouht these old catalogue pics were drawn by hand? I might be wrong though.

That might be it. I said that because on the older pic the marlinspike looks rounder around the hole whereas in ulli's pic the marlinspike seems flatter. Maybe it's a newer version?

I saw the alox knives they used for fotos at the victorinox archive. They look like common knives, with backspring, but without any tension. They told me that they cut away the base of the tools around the pin or rounded them with a file before assembling the knives.

I'd say they assembled it the wrong way on purpose, because it looks better from the front side. (Front of the spike that is.)
