Has anyone ground a second edge on the blade?
on: January 02, 2007, 04:15:14 AM
Just wondering if anyone else noticed the main blade on the Powerlock (and I assume the other SOG tools) is only ground on one side.  For cutting plastic wrap off skids or firewood bundles it's just fine; but for delicate work it woulden't be that great I imagine..

So has anyone ground a second bevel to it?  I'd definately try it, but I've only got one blade, so if I mess it up, it might become useless :-X

You got me there... I'll have to take a closer look at mine and see, but I am pretty certain mine is ground on both sides.  At least the one in my edc is...

You can call SOG and order a blade with the grinds on both sides

Serrated edges are almost always ground on one side only.  It is cheaper and significantly less difficult than trying to carve serrations into both sides.

True, but the plain edge could be ground, and leave the serrations only carved in on one side...like my Gerber 8)

Ok I just finished grinding the second Edge and Touched it up on some 2000 grit sandpaper and she is ALOT sharper than Before she can shave hair with no problem so if you have a belt grind I recommend it

Damn, no belt grinder...I use a grinding bit chucked into a drill press to sharpen my axe..woulden't be good for delicate work like the SOG blade (and you can't really mess us an axe blade ;) ).  I'd like to see pics if you got 'em.

DIY with paper wheels !!! Buy a bench grinder at a garage sale  ( if the grinder has a removable base, and most do, you can remove it and turn it around so the switch is on the front side ) + a buy set of paper wheels for $37.  You can put a nice edge on a piece of steel using this stup.
Why do I carry a 45 ?
Because they don't make a 46 !
