PayPal change
on: May 31, 2015, 11:35:31 PM
Just went to pay for an ebay purchase and PayPal no longer offers your credit card as the way to pay for something. Its either bank funds (backed up by your credit card)  or a PayPal credit card. Anyone else run into this?

I have no idea what the deal with this is as I do not use Paypal or EBAY, but I do remember reading something a few weeks back about EBAY moving away from using Paypal as its main payment option.

That would be counter productive for Ebay since they own Paypal.

Ebay bought Paypal in 2002 for 1.5 billion and Paypal earned 8.9 billion last year.

I had an idea the separation concept was something dreamt up by the "masters of the universe" (ie financial trickery wizards) and it had something to do with  increasing the total value/worth by separating the two businesses.  Anything that makes more money for the execs and owners of a big business will usually get a run these days.

I couldn't see eBay totally refusing to accept PayPal payments unless there was a practical alternative (it's in EBay's interests to make payment as easy and thoughtless as possible).

I'm not saying its right for business or if I am even remembering correctly, but a quick search turns up this.

They will not do this. It is just so they can be traded as two separate companies.

Was not a case of ebay refusing to except PayPal. Rather it was PayPal no longer allowing the option of paying directly with my credit card. Instead I have to pay through my PayPal-linked bank account, with the credit card as a backup. Since my bank account is now empty, PayPal charged the remainder to my credit card. Took that without a problem. I'm wondering if there are going to be some additional fees. The only other listed option was paying with PayPal's own credit card.

There may be an explanation for that. It may be worth asking PayPal about it. I haven't had any issues and I used pay pal recently.

Be careful, lastnight the wife got an email from PayPal, saying about something she bought, and of course it was like over $400, in which we didn't, it was a total scam, she thought someone hacked into the account, she forwarded it to PayPal to find out about it, and it was a scam, this isn't the first time, but normally she can just look at who sent it and it will be a diff name, but lastnight she couldn't get any info on it, so she started going nuts :ahhh ! So just a heads up!

I would not allow Paypal access to my bank account.

If anything I would set up a separate bank account with limited funds so Paypal and any scammer would have access to a small and limited amount of money.

Exactly what I did (and for the very same reasons).  I use this account for all my on-line purchases, including those not through PayPal ( I have a debit card linked to this account for sellers who won't accept PayPal).  I have to keep topping it up as it runs low on funds, but I believe the extra effort is worth it.

Contacted Paypal. They sent a generic reply that didn't answer my question, but got my account straightened out, so everything is looking ok.

As with others, I have a special account tied in to Paypal, with only a small amount of money in it.

Ok, not sure it's the place to ask, but.  I hadn't bought anything for ages, then I decided to  buy somethign cheap from eBay. The first time it gave me crap, saying it couldn't identify my card.

Then... nothing, I do hate all this crap with paypal and smurfton of info, so I gav eup. Then on the next day I got an e-mail from PayPal, saying my account has gotten... limited access for whatever reason. I went to my account.. verified my e-mail address... and was then able to make the mentioned purchase.

Half an hour ago I got another e-mail from PayPal saying my account had been limited again because soooomene recently used it, wtf.

Then I had to download something, go to some page, which I did... but then it started asking me for mya ddress, phone, email, name, which, fine, until it got to: name on th card info, bank account number, card number, CVV and so on. I didn't complete it, because I don't think I've been asked about SO much such info before.

How do I know someone won't misuse the info?? bank account number, wtf. And I didn't even have any cards linked to my PayPal account before. Is it because of the recent PP chagnes?

I don't keep a credit card on file on Paypal. I just use funds that I get from selling items

Just use a webcard , a visa just for online buys, where you only put money in just before payment and link it to PayPal.

Nnr, I would send PayPal an email and ask them what is going on. It sounds suspicious. Does this affect your coke bottle sale?

Toolguy, I totally agree and that's what I did...what a pain.  But I do buy on the Bay, so it was worth the piece of mind!

ColoSwiss, I haven't purchased on the Bay since Sunday, but I used my PayPal account.  When you log in, you will have to press "Change" (it's usually underlined) next to your payment method.  I've had to do this every time I make a purchase since I linked a bank account.

It then allows you to choose Paypal Credit, your linked bank account, or your credit card.

It worked on Sunday, but I haven't tried since...(okay, I just tried it and it's as I captured above).

Good luck...

And yeah, I'm really not willing to risk stuff because I use the account/card where I get my salary, so....  :ahhh

silver colour is similar in brightness and overall colour to the ice, yes, but also to the sea/lakes and the sky.
so you can use it to attack underwater and also when parashooting into enemy land, without anybody noticing your knife !!

If you want I can, for $100, put a special, scratched non reflective  camouflage on the blades too. !!
