Cheers for that. Is that the same for Bison too?

Unfortunately, the bison is pretty much limited to small populations in the west and in Canada and Alaska these days. The species was pretty much systematically wiped out.
Rather mundane quote entered here to approximate humor.

Sad really. I was under the impression that the Biston is starting to make a recovery due to protection.

Just concluded what will probably turn out to be this season's last longer ride, in the northern Alpine borderlands. Also managed to top the 1500 km, so the bike is now officially run in  :woohoo:

Today was my last ride for the season too. Managed to clock 3,000 Klms, not bad but wish it was more, come on Spring!

For those of you that are aware of my little garage incident with my ZRX1200, have some good news...

After getting the truck tire fixed today, I did some closer looking at my bike. Turns out only the lens is broken on the turn signal. Cheap fix.

And the broken aluminum handlebar turns out to be threaded plugs tack welded onto the ends of the handlebar is what broke. The welds broke. Looking to try some JB Weld, or the like, to reaffix the plug back onto the handlebar.

Unfortunately, nothing can easily be done with the damage to the gas tank. I’ll just have to live with it for awhile as I decide what to do.

Can you touch the tank up with some paint zrxoa1  :dunno:
It won’t get rid off any dents but you might
be able to get it blended in a bit better  :tu:

Might try.  There’s a tiny bit of damage on the other side as well, was there from another owner. Can barely see it.

I think for now, I’ll clean and wax it really good, to keep from rusting on the surface.

G'Day

Day four of holidays here and another bike ride. This was the third this week and another one coming up is on Friday once the schools close. We are off to the Snowy Mountains for ten days with some mates on their farm. I will have the boy-child on the back. He is exited to go down, where he will be in bike heaven for the entire time. Riding with him has become special and I enjoy every moment with the kids on the bikes. I think that it created a special bond that not many of their friends have. Not a single one of both my kids friends have been on a motorbike at all. Mom and the girl-child will follow on Sunday. We will have Christmas AND New Year in the bush!!! Pics will follow.

Back to the rides... Last week we did a quick run up to Bathurst where one of the famous V8 car races is held each year. It is a 1,000km race that takes most of Sunday and a very exciting race. No pics of the track, but on the way back we stopped at a lookout for a break. Just two bikes, my R1150 GS Adventure and Kelvin on a R65 LS. He recently got another one which went on today's run. the "old" LS is a 1983 and the "new" LS is a 1984.  :D Lovely bikes for their age and still do a full day's ride no matter the kms. I must admit, I enjoy riding the LS for a change, but cannot do the trips we do on it. The GS is SOOOOO much more comfortable.

The other ride we did today was up to a breakfast cafe and the last ride for the four of us. We try to get a ride in every week work permitting. The two GS owners are still employed while the RT owner and the LS owners are not. what a life!!!

The pictures in the forest was taken today after the road has been opened after all the bush fires. So sad to see 100km of National park gone up in smoke. Out hearts go out to the people who lost everything.

Cheers,

Pete

Thanks Mate, it is a keeper.

I just got it back after the 30K service. New tires makes a world of difference, I got 20K out of the Pirelli Scorpions Trails. The front was shot, but the rear still has 2mm of thread left. It was the first time that I have worn a front out before the rear.

It has been raining and I had to run the tires in on wet roads. No problem for the Michelin Road 5's. They are great so far. I'm planning a day ride on Monday if the weather holds. Will post some pics if we go out.

Cheers, Pete

I was surprised by the wear too. I always change both tires at the same time, unless I have to replace one due to a defect / cut.

Well tomorrow's weather is looking OK so far. I expect to see some rain with a prediction of 85%  :D. It will be a good test to the new tires and I will be able to see if they are really so good. This is the first set of dedicated road tires I had since 2010. That is when I bought my first GSA and have always run a tire that has some % dirt and some % road. In saying that, most of today's adventure focused tires are very good in most situations.

Pics to follow.

Interesting, I wonder if suspension settings or front weight bias makes such a difference. Or maybe breaking hard for corners...  ::)

We are lucky we can ride all year round, I'll be VERY grumpy if I have to winterise any of the bikes!!!

Thanks Mate, I do like them  :D

We had a shortish day today, covered about 350km round trip. The weather cleared up beautifully and the roads were clean after last weeks rain. Couple that with brand new road tires, I had a ball!!! I got to ride my mates R1200 GSA too. Love the LC motor on them. We stopped for breakfast at our local cafe, an hour from home. The food and coffee is always good. The owner was there too, and we had a good chat to her. She really likes bikes and looks very well after them.

Our second stop was at the Truck Memorial, set up to commemorate truckies that died whilst on the road. We also swapped bikes here. My mate on the GSA gets hot easily and loved the nakedness of the R9T. He was going to do a short stint, to get a feel for the tires, but ended up riding 150 km to our next coffee stop. I also refuelled there and we said our good-byes before the last run home. Some more winding roads and I was at home just after lunch. I really enjoyed today's ride. The bike goes so much better after the service and the Michelin Road 5's are fantastic!!!.

Tomorrow I'll take the boy-child for a short ride as they are still on holidays. I'm hoping my new riding pants will arrive today and I can test the full Klim suit tomorrow. GS for two-up duties. I'll post some pics.

Cheers, Pete

G'Day,

Another day, another ride...

The leisure life of a train driver, tough, but someone has to do it!!!  :D

This morning was a shortish ride. My mate has to go to work, but I had the day off. The original plan was to take the boy-child with, but he has a crook tummy and stayed at home.

We rode through some of the burnt areas and it is refreshing to see that the rains last week and early this week is starting to make a difference. Lots of debris on the roads though and trees standing at odd angles ready to assault the unsuspected rider or driver. We crossed the Hawksburry river via the ferry and rode through mangroves to our breakfast spot. Breakfast was at a place called Saddles that has a very fine restaurant and plant selling stuff. We sat outside overlooking the lake with two black geese. Food was excellent and the coffee too.

I got home just after lunch. A good day and excellent ride.

Pete

Southern Hemisphere Weather - Glorious

Another great ride, this time was for two days. One of our regular riders with the black GSA booked himself into a four day BMW off-road training course. I could not make it, but instead changed the ride to include an additional two days to get to the training resort. Three of us went up, and two came back...  :D Me on the R9T - the GSA was not ready in time, Kelvin on the R65LS and Ian on the GSA.

It was my first long trip on the R9T and spent a few days on getting luggage sorted and making sure I'll be comfortable. The GSA went in for a LED headlight conversion. The bike and the lights was not compatible and the wiring loom got fried. There was no way it will be fixed in two days, so the R9T had to go. I was a little apprehensive as it is not really a touring bike. Small screen, firm (harsh) suspension and a firm seat. I have done day rides and it is a lot of fun in the tight and twisty roads, as it is 50kg lighter that my GSA and have 20kw more power!!! I strapped a Kriega US30 bag to the rear rack and seat, fitted all my clothing, tools and first aid kit in. There was still room left. We expected wet weather but were blessed with absolute glorious days. With the rains that has been falling all the fires in New South Wales are out and the bush is starting to recover. Is was awesome to see so much green and the black and dry land coming back to life. I also invested in a new Klim Latitude touring suit and it was its first trip. Love the gear, it is not cheap but VERY comfortable.

The resort is right in the middle of the mountains with a decent river running through it. Some cattle and other furry creatures too. Tuesday night was clear and we saw millions of stars whilst savouring some excellent red wine and solving most questions relating to the universe and life out there!!! We were woken at around midnight to a massive thunderstorm and lightning show. That lasted for an hour and the morning broke with not a cloud in the sky. A hearty breakfast saw us out and we made a lazy way back to Sydney. All up was 1,040km door to door for me.

The bikes performed well without a hitch and I was very happy with the R9T. I will use it again if it is a one or two night get away, provided we stay on bitumen. The stock suspension is not dirt friendly and neither are the road tires. They did provide lots of fun on the muddy roads with the traction control disabled...

Now for some pics

Cheers, Pete
