We are lucky we can ride all year round. I'll go mad if I cannot ride.

DT, have you been on the Guzzi at all? Are you still happy with the additional fog lights?

Pete

Pete,
Last time was shortly before Xmas. Might go out on it for lunch today. Not much experience with the fog lights on this particular bike yet but my experience with the same lights on the previous one (BMW) was that I felt I tended not to be overlooked as much as before I'd installed them. Of course I use them often when there is no fog :D and the sun is low, to add a bit of apparent width to my profile. Seems to help, but no hard data of course.
Cheers!

Cheers D_T,

I found the same. Once I installed mine on the GSA, they are on all the time during the day. I switch them off once the sun sets, they are just to bright and I have not installed the dimmer switch yet. With the switch I will be able to dial them up or down based on how dark it gets. The reason I have not fitted that yet is that the switch box is not waterproof. If I hide it where it is protected, I will most likely not be able to get to it. The closest I have seen to my solution is one that Denali offers with their smart switch technology. They dim their lights based on which headlight is on. Unfortunately that switch does not work with my led lights and hence the dimmer solution. Once I have it working I'll post some pics.

For the R9T I will most likely install the Denali solution.

Cheers, Pete

Now that taking pleasure rides is frowned upon around here, this weekend's perfect weather was used to mod my bike a little bit. The stock indicators (signals), fugly as h€ll and, at a whopping 10 Watts each, not exactly bright, were simply crying out to be replaced.

Pity, isn't it?

At least the new indicators look more classic and decent - when not lit, that is, being LED units they outshine many a medium-sized star.
(For those interested: Kellermann Bullet 1000 Dark, 3W LED each.)

I forgot to add the following highly relevant items of information:
- During the mod, extensive use was made of the scissors and the small pliers on my CyberChamp
- Also used, the pliers on the PST2
- Worn, one (1) t-shirt, blue, with the following text: Halifax *Red lighthouse* Nova Scotia, in a nod to Def :D

Edit: no that is not the way I have my mirrors all the time. I blame the narrow garden gate.
Cheers!

That looks very nice D_T. Do you have a smaller option for a number plate?

I'm dying for a ride too, but with the covit house detention I can only ride to work and back. I do add in a few extra scenic kms just for sanity's sake.

Cheers, Pete

This reminds me that I need to get a new battery. Mine died late last season. Mind you, it was funny to see all the guys on their motorcycles the first nice warm day...and a quick response from the Provincial Police to not be going out for rides during the pandemic.

The way things are going, not sure what the motorcycle season will be this year.

Hey Pete,

Sorry, no smaller number plates allowed here. They did recently reduce the size but that's as small as they get, with minimum no. of digits and letters for this City/Landkreis.
Cheers!

In a further nod to safety, this weekend saw the replacement of the tiny stock horn with a couple of Fiamms worthy of the name "horn". I don't use them a lot (I'm not very Italian like that  :D) but I'd like to have the option, such as to wake some sleepyhead phonebound driver at the lights or to avert other impending danger if needed.

Do they play any tune, like the General Lee?

I just stumbled upon a YouTube channel from a fellow Canadian called FortNine. I find his reviews frankly, some of the best motorcycle reviews I have seen...very professionally done, and I like the history he tends to imbue his videos with. Thought I would share.

I'd forgotten about this channel, but now you've reminded me I do recall that I thought his videos were pretty good, and I agreed with a lot of his opinions.

 :D :D

I'm afraid they don't. This is generally frowned upon around here  :D :police:

I've added a relay though, acting on some advice in a different forum (shock! Horror! :D)

PS: the scissors on any SAK are invaluable for removing insulation from around wires. Highly recommended :tu:

Update...battery is dead and cannot be resuscitated. I will have to wait till next Friday for one to arrive...if I am lucky. That should give me plenty of time to detail the bike.

A frequent problem on my previous bike too. With hindsight, it might have had something to do with the intermittent refusal to start when warm for which I ended up selling it. However, bike batteries generally tend to have a shorter life than car batteries because of their smaller size and longish pauses in between riding binges... :D

I have my bike battery on one of those chargers
that you can keep connected all through the winter
And seems to work well but will see if it still starts soon

Bike batteries can be  temperamental. I find that if the bike is not ridden weekly a tender is a must, especially the good ones that simulate riding conditions by reducing the voltage and charging it up again. I have two bikes and the non-daily one gets ridden every weekend. So far the battery has been good, but I did put a good Oddesey battery in. They are not cheap but last a long time. My last one lasted nine years before finally dying a slow death.
