The last two opinel threads reminded me about an
opinel no 8 I found last year in a park that I was working in,
It was in good used condition blade was black as they go and quite sharp it has a lanyard hole but no lanyard was attached,it was under a picknick bench so obviously slid out of someons pocket.
The interesting thing about it is the blade doesnt lock in the closed possition like every other opinel ive seen which is why ive never carried it without a rubberband  round it.
Will it be old ?

Nice find! I think (and someone will correct me if I'm wrong), but the new collar which allowed locking the blade in the closed position wasn't issued until 2000.

You can file it down yourself if you like. It's a useful mod.

Mine was the same in that it didn't lock in the closed position so a simple mod was done.

Thanks  guys I thought it must be quite old and sorry I cant take any pics as my ipod has died and my phone is too battered to take a pic. Im no good with phones  I need a new way to connect to MTO

I'm glad others knew the date as I couldn't remember myself.  I do know my No12 that I bought many years ago while on holiday doesn't have one.
