Lansky turnbox for partly serrated edge?

I can't afford the Spyderco Sharpmaker that looks like it would solve this problem. Will the Lansky work on a partly serrated edge?

I have both systems, and I think the result will largely depends on how wide is the serrated edge apart vs Turnbox ceramic rod diameter, which is round and girth about a pencil. And you probably did know this, the turnbox sharpening angle(40 or 50 deg inclusive) is also different from Sharpmaker(30 or 40 deg inclusive).

Odds are the Lansky rods will be too big to fit into serrations but you could get the Lansky Turnbox and just buy one medium (brown) Spyderco triangles to use for the serrations.

I have heard of people having problems sharpening serated blade's but have never ever had that problem using my very old butcher steel. I've been using it for over 30 yrs and have sharpened all kind of blades with it serated and non. I use to sharpen knifes in the barracks for beer money. On graveyard shift at my former job about once a month everyone would bring me their knives to sharpen so I've sharpened a little bit of everything on it. You should be able to get one like it second hand for about $10. (It's probably 80+ yrs old) you don't have to spend alot of money on a sharpening system to get the job done.

I own a Lansky turn box and i really like it because it gets my blades arm hair shaving sharp for a very low price. I don't know how your serrations are, but it will probably fit in the large part of most serations. If you have a serrated blade that goes from 1 large part to 3 small ones and then 1 large part again it will probably not fit in the small cutting parts. The size of the rods is comparable to an M8 size bolt.

Thanks for the info, guys. Maybe the Turnbox would work after all. It doesn't look worse than Gene's butcher steel. The serrations are pretty large on the particular knife I want to sharpen. Will put it back on the shopping list.
