Sad news. RIP 3in1
on: January 14, 2016, 11:15:57 AM
Just heard on facebook that Dave Ling, aka 3in1, has died.

From fb;
Quote
Ladies and gentlemen with great sadness I would like to tell you we have lost another great one in the community.
Dave ling passed away on the 12th of January after fighting illness.
He will be missed immensely by all .
His great knowledge , kindness , sense of humor , generosity made dave the greatest man of mystery I ever knew .
Despite only seeing his face a couple of times yet knowing him years combined with his knowledge made him like a superhero knife god to me and many others.
Chances are if we had a question we would ask dave .
Thoughts go out to his family and cheryl in this time of hardship and mourning.
Until we meet again in the great halls Dave Ling have a safe journey

I just saw on Facebook that a good friend and MTO member David Ling, aka 3in1 passed away.

I don't have any more details, but I'm very upset to hear this.  If anyone has any additional info I would appreciate knowing them.  I know he was close to more than a few of us.

Rest in peace buddy.  You will be missed.

I hadn't seen the other thread.   Thanks for pointing it out.  I'm posting from my phone right now, but I'm sure one of our helpful mods can merge these.

Thanks.

It is always tough to lose one of our own.

I have gotten to know many of you, but as the forum grows there are so many that I know little about and I find that a bit frustrating but I suppose it's part for the course.

I wold like to remind everyone that my door is open should anyone ever want to send me a PM with a question, comment, or if anyone just wants to introduce themselves.

If it wasn't for all of you, we'd have nothing here.

Dave did me a huge favor this morning.

Given my injury last night I was pretty depressed this morning as I dragged myself to the washroom since I had yet to obtain crutches.  There's a lot of reasons right now why I really can't be out of action right now, and dragging oneself across the floor to urinate is not exactly a proud moment either.

As I sat there in the hall feeling pretty low and very sorry for myself I read the news on FB that Dave had passed away, and I realized how much of an ass I was being.  I may not be running any marathons any time soon, but at least I am still here.

Yes, things will go wrong from time to time, and often at very bad times, but if you wake up in the morning you have another chance to make everything right.  And, I don't have a leg to stand on (no pun intended) when it comes to feeling sorry for myself when someone else has had their future taken from them.

Losing Dave is a tragedy, and nothing can change that.  If we feel that bad here, I can't imagine what his family is going through right now.  But, if there's a bright spot in all of this, however minor, his passing has made me realize that my situation isn't all that bad.

Thank you Dave.  I'm sure we could have found a better way to get the point across, but I appreciate what you did for me this morning more than I can say.

This loss has hit me fairly hard. Dave was always willing to find me a multi-tool that I couldn't source up here in Canada. He also knew how difficult it was for me to ask as well. His loss will be felt not because he was always willing to help me, but simply because he was such a damn nice all around guy.

People in the FB group have started to post pics of blue tools as a tribute. I think that's a really lovely way to honour his memory, so I'll be carrying my blue farmer today.
