I did a bad thing...
on: February 13, 2016, 02:35:52 AM
And it was very satisfying. while not a mod per say, I thought this the most appropriate place to share. I've had most of a Paul Chen Multitasker hanging in my closet for a while now. Today, I finally stripped it for parts.

Holy Washers Batman!

You may ask "sLaughterMed, what on Earth did you do to the carcass of that poor Excalibur?" Well, dear reader, to make a long story short, he met my hammer. I wanted the internal spring for a future mod, but alas, there was no releasing it from its metal cage. Until after giving up in desperation, I bent the mangles frame.... and "pop" went the rivet, and the spring went flying down 2.5 stories into the grass below :faceplam: whelp. At least I had fun for the last 30 minutes.

What are you planning to use the parts on?

Well I was hoping to put the spring on the MP600 that had the Multitasker shears on it, but that plan seems to have flown off into the lawn somewhere..... :/

As for the rest of the parts... not sure. Im going to try drilling out the pivots for starters, and see if I can fit some on that same MP600. The rest.... no idea.

Use a large magnet. If you know the general location you should be able to find it.
If I remember correctly, wait, what was I saying?

I'll look at mine and see if I can match something close to it. Metro did a mod here to that model also so might want to look and see

Sid you try systematically searching the lawn?
Search a strip, move to the next strip, etc?
Or putting a grid down and removing the grid as you search?

Sorry for your loss. :(

Thank you for your suggestions and support in my time of loss

Guys its just a spring. Its not like I dropped my wedding ring. I promise, I can get past this. Besides, I live in an apartment. I cant exactly start laying down a grid. I have neighbors,  who dont think im nuts yet, and id like it to stay that way.

Steve, i did see Metros mod, I was actually planning on using his mod as a model for my own.

Do you have a magnet? Use a long staff with the magnet on the tip, like a metal detector. Don't know if it would work...

Magnetic fields get weak fast as the magnet gets farther away. I could be wrong, but I think a BIG magnet would be needed for this to work?

No. To get the tools to fit properly in an MP600, you have to widen the pivot hole, and totally reshape the locking interface. IMO not worth the time, as the Multitasker's tool implements are very low quality. I think I still have most of the parts in a baggie somewhere, if you are interested

If I remember correctly, You probably got the pin partway out, but at a certain point it just keeps spinning, without getting any looser? It's because there is a nut hiding underneath the hinge the pliers pivot on, that seats into the Plier's bracket. If you pry that bracket outward so that the nut re-seats itself, you should be able to unscrew the pin the rest of the way.

Keep in mind it is very hard to put this assembly back together again (I was unsuccessful in my attempts).
