I did not see it until today either, SG.  Its in the 2016 Spydie catalog, which is highly recommended - and free.  Maybe that's where you saw it.

These designer knives from Spyderco are more spendy than the standard lineup, which themselves are increasingly spendy.  Most have priced themselves past my personal "no thank you" line.

1st for me too.

It looks interesting, more normal.

It looks more like a fixed blade

Nice, I like the look of it.  That might be a contender for my first spyderco.  I never liked they're triangle blade shape.

waaaaaayy out of my league - at €180 or so i'd be afraid to use it in case i scratched it (even if i could afford one) !
in general, would something like this be a user or a collectors item ?

the design is interesting but I do wonder what it can do as opposed to an OHT or a Farmer

Almost nothing, really.  The WolfSpyder does have a locking blade that the Farmer lacks, and one-handed deployment.  But all it really does is cut stuff.  Just like an Opinel.

As pocket jewelry, one may find it the coolest knife ever made.  Or not.  That's entirely subjective, and if anyone likes X or Y knife, then I say rock on, brother.

But we should distinguish that from objective utility, and spendy knives almost always score low on the utility per cost scale.

Hmmmm....

I bought my Mercator from Bushcraft, and I was struck by the lack of pocket jewellery on the site.Kinda a bit disappointed in Ray over this. Not knocking Spydies,at least not any more than I usually do,but yeah....not what I'd expect from Ray Mears Bushcraft

Am I alone in thinking this would have been cooler with great wood scales?  Iron wood, cocobolo perhaps  heck what do I know and it is way out of my league price wise as well.

I actually DID know about this one for some reason, though for the life of me I can't think why as I'm not a particular Spydie fan.

I'm a bit curious about the design and wouldn't mind having a hold of one, but it doesn't really speak to me much.  I am at least confident that it's going to be a very well made knife, unlike some Bear Grylls and Les Stroud gear.

I like that line of thought. I'm sure someone who makes custom scales or customizes folders will get a good number of orders for that

To be fair that Les Stroud Tamegami made by Helle was (maybe even still is) a very good knife. That's one of the reasons why I'm still sad over Wenger going the way of the Dodo. Mike Horn Ranger or Ueli Steck climbing knife anyone?

A $200 (or more) Spyderco trying to be like a $15 Mora or it's $10 Bahco cousin is what it sounds like from the description.   And it's not a fixed blade, meaning there's a ton of stuff I'd be afraid to do with the Spyderco, but the Bahco or Mora would withstand well.   I use a Bahco Mora for farm work, and it's withstood opening feed sacks, whittling, and cutting brush wonderfully. It's plastic sheath easily clips to the watch pocket on my jeans.  Methinks this won't sell well.

Mostly because stuff the Mears punts is about go,not show. Ray is about doing stuff, not being a gear head for its own sake.

Sounds like I'm ragging on Spydies again

This is why I don't drink much anymore. I'm blaming Jack Beam  Jimmy Daniels

That's absolutely fair, and I like the look of the axe he did with Wetterlings as well.  I also think some of the BG stuff is very good.  However not everything those two have endorsed or branded are of good quality. :D  I don't think that can be said of Ray Mears, though I could be wrong.

the man also endorsed some belt designed to look like in some old movie. I believe the movie in question was African queen

Well, it's a good looking belt, but nothing particularly different as far as I can see.

That belt really looks nice.

in 2013 we also had this belt
http://lh6.ggpht.com/-_5ZTKJMDvj0/UQkSAv--GDI/AAAAAAAAIlo/gjSNVQnIPPg/s1600-h/WoodloreMogamboBelt3.jpg

inspired by the movie Mogambo

one of his designs that did interest me is the 90L backpack called Leaf Cutter, mainly since it seemed to have improved suspension than the similar products made by Snugpack
