Need recommendations
on: April 05, 2016, 11:05:46 PM
Hi All,

Some of you may remember the Deejo post I made a couple weeks ago and most of you help me to reconsider my interest in purchasing a Deejo. So instead I ask for some recommendations. I am looking for a folding knife that meets the following:

- Slim. This is the most important aspect since my purpose for this knife would be to carry it flush in a jacket pocket when a big bulky leatherman or other multitool wouldn't be appropriate.
- Simple and Stylish. It doesn't have to have any more tools besides the blade but ideally I would like something that looks good in good company. Again picture being out at a nice lunch with friends when you need to open a package and want to be snappy about it without having to pull out a big bulky multitool.
- One Hand Open. This may be asking a lot but if it can be an easy OHO knife that would be great. Now being in Canada "automatic" knives are illegal but even something with a solid thumb hole is workable.
- Ideally about a 3" folding Blade. Now being a slim and simple blade it does NOT have to be able to cut down a tree or pierce a car door by any stretch. Again mostly just for opening a package or other small task.
- Budget. Ideally be under $100 since it doesn't have to have to be a full on multitool.

I like the Deejo but many have said it borders on useless, even for the simplest of tasks. Another suggestion was an Alox Bantam which I am considering but I wanted to see what other suggestions were out there.

Thanks in advance!

Maybe a Spyderco Delica 4 would work.  They are a very nice blade!

They also come in a few different scale colors and you can get them in plain edge, combo edge or full serrated.

Have a look at the CRKT swindle, it's a really nice 'gentleman's folder' on a budget.

I have no experience with them but maybe look at some Kershaw models like the Chill or Skyline.

Probably lots of options. How about a Kershaw Skyline Damascus.
Waiting for the time when I can finally say; this has all been wonderful but now I'm on my way.

Hi all,

Thanks for the great suggestions.

Have a look at the CRKT swindle, it's a really nice 'gentleman's folder' on a budget.

So far I am liking the look of this Swindle as well as the Cass xx. I will look at them closer.

Thanks again!

Gentlemen folders must be classy, not just a tool. Impress your friends
As you want one hand opening (not sure you need a clip) then I suggest the following at around $100.
If you are going to carry one knife make sure it is of the best, pride in ownership and you appreciate the makers art when using a good knife.

Al Mar Hawk Ultralight  - $95
http://www.knifeworks.com/almarhawkultralightstandar338closed.aspx

Spyderco Chaparral - $102
http://www.amazon.com/Spyderco-Chaparral-Plain-Carbon-6-37-Inch/dp/B005CVHCNA/

Upper Midrange = Spyderco Delica, Dragonfly, UKPK  etc.

If you want to step down a bit then look at the Kershaw Leek, the RAT Model II or the CRKT Lake. (Cheap, Cheaper, Cheapest)

There are hundreds of knives in this category but the ones above are my choices for this type of need.

Yes what you've described is exactly what I am looking for. Not so much for impressing my friends but just a gentleman's knife for when the big clunky tool isn't appropriate.

I really like the look of the Al Mar Hawk that one has my eye. Thanks for the suggestion! I tend to like the long thin blades for this purpose. I will take a close look at it tonight.

Yes, very many selections out there.

Perhaps visit a couple knife vendors and browse through the offerings. AG Russell has nice gentleman folders too.

As mentioned, the Buck Spitfire or Mini Spifire is a pretty good budget choice. Comfortable and lightweight. Decent blade material. Well suited for common daily tasks. And won't frighten off the sheeple to their safe space.
