yup damn shame it never ran its course properly - i reckon it'd have given BSG a decent run for contender of best series ever !

Oh, come on!!! :D

Firefly was a way better show than BSG. For some reason, BSG never pushed any button for me, so I never watched it past the 1st season. But Firefly was a great human interest drama mixed with some syfy, and a little western stuff. Maybe it was just the people that made it, but I remember reading a review of Firefly that said Firefly was a show about the people Star Trek would have passed on by. Well, I guess BSG was the same thing, too big or something that the people got lost in the greater shuffle.

I think Firefly had better writing, and better actors. They all did such a wonderful job.

Besides, BSG had nobody who could kick Jayne's butt!
Sorry, but as much as I love Firefly Everybody on BSG could kick Jaynes butt with the exception of Dr Gaius Balta, and he could probably convince Jayne to kick his own butt.

So say we all!
There is no beginning,or ending, and for this we are thankful, cos now is hard enough to understand!

Seriously, you do need to give BSG another try.

I was introduced to Firefly by a friend who said 'it's Cowboys with spaceships',and he was right, and what's not to love.

BSG on the other hand delves into some very deep issues. I'd say it speaks a lot of the challenges that have faced the soul of the American people in the last twenty years. It does get very dark, and is often very harrowing to watch.

Just skip the last season :pok:

I really tried to get into it, but it just never grabbed me. Maybe because I'm just not a scfy guy at heart. I grew up in the 1950's when the western as king. I watched Wagon Train, Gun smoke, and best of all, Have Gun-Will Travel. Thought Paladin was the coolest guy west of anywhere. A gunman who tried not to shoot anyone unless it was no choice. Later as a teen when Star Trek came out, I couldn't get into that either.

But with Firefly, it was sort of like cowboys went into space. There was still the issue of what was right or wrong, and the crew of Serenity often took the time to stay and set things right. Like a lot of westerns, it was Shakespeare, a morality play. KInd of like when John Wayne said you always have to do what's right, even if you're scared to death, you still saddle up and go. Kind of like real life. When the Earp's walked down the street to the ally in back of the OK Coral, they knew there was going to be a fight, but they took that walk anyways. Maybe it's just what we all grew up with in our own era. The 1950's scify was cheesy stuff, some of it we actually laughed at. But the western was king then, and it stuck in my psyche like a tumor.

I'd never wonder what would Captain Kirk do, but I would wonder what The Duke would do. Or Mal. I think Mal and Rooster Cogburn would get along. :D

I'm still stuck on old school Battlestar Galactica.  I've never been able to wrap my head around hot blonde Cylons, that the large black man somehow morphed into an attractive Asian woman (Boomer) or how the coolest guy ever (Starbuck) became another hot blonde.

Or how it turns out that most of them are actually Cylons in such good disguises that they didn't know they were Cylons in disguise.

One of these days I'll give it another shot.  Maybe.  I keep trying to give DS9 another shot but rarely make it past the first season...

The original Galactica is the real one for me.

It's definitely well worth another shot. My wife is is as indifferent to sci fi as it's possible to be, finally gave in to my methods of wearing her down and she absolutely loved it. I struck while the iron was hot and as soon as we'd finished watching BSG we started Firefly which she also loved.

I admittedly got into Firefly after it had already aired.

Still love it, and wish they had done more, but maybe it's short broadcast life is what made it and keeps it great, it never had time to dilute down into filler episodes and nonsensical seasons.

I have a box set of the original BSG that looks like this:

I enjoyed the reboot, and yes it was different, but dark and gritty as it should have been.

I'm glad to see that we're finally starting to get more actual space scifi shows as after BSG ended we kind of hit a dry spell apart from movies.

Hopefully shows like The Expanse, Killjoys, Dark Matter will usher in a new era.
The difficult we do immediately, the impossible takes a little longer.

I think that Joss Whedon is one of the few people who could be relied upon to maintain the quality throughout. Buffy was an amazing series and I believe Firefly would have achieved as much had it kept going, though I take your point that its abrupt cancellation has added to its allure.

Oh yeah, everyone of them. Though I wasn't that much of a Kung Foo fan, it was a decent show with some good morality plays. But my absolute number one favorite will always be Have gun-Will travel. But Yancy Derringer was up there as well.

I tried to watch BSG, as I was a big fan of Edward James Olmos from Miami Vice. There were some good actors on BSG, but the overall show didn't click with me. Tricia Helfer was great to watch and easy on the eyes. Maybe if Grace Park was more around I may have watched. Exotic little sweetheart!

That modded Winchester in the rifleman got me  every time! Some times, it was my favourite part of the show.
