Nite Ize Financial Tool- multitool wallet

While exploring another outdoors shop in Ottawa yesterday I came across this doodad- Nite Ize calls it the Financial Tool, and it's basically another credit card type tool, only instead of carrying it inside your wallet, Nite Ize thinks it will replace your wallet.  It reminds me of the Trayvax Wallet, only with even less effort.



It features a small ruler with imperial and metric increments (barely) up to 1 inch or 30mm.  The opposite end is a scraper, but is thankfully not that sharp. 



Two of the corners feature screwdrivers- one a Phillips, one a flathead.



There are cutouts inside the body of the Financial Tool for 1/4, 5/16ths and 3/8 inch wrenches, and another cutout for a bottle opener.  The rest of the cutouts are just fancy venting, possibly to reduce weight, and possibly to just try to make it look fancy.



What seems to separate this from other credit card tools is the rubber straps that go around it to hold cash and/or credit cards.  I just happen to have a bit of each, so I thought I would stick them in there and see how it works.



The straps seemed quite stretched trying to hold three $20 bills and a $5 bill and four cards.



While I don't usually have much more in the way of cash, I do usually carry a number more cards- two or three store cards, three credit cards, a gift card, a phone card, driver's license, firearms license and so on, and I just don't feel confident that this unit would hold them securely.  The teeny rubber straps that stretch through slots cut out from a sheet metal card just don't inspire much in the way of confidence.



Additionally, in order to use any of the tools on the Financial Tool, you would need to remove all of the cards, which just puts more wear and tear on the small rubber strings, and present yer another opportunity to either misplace a card or have someone else along to help you misplace a card.

This one seems to me like another solution to a problem that doesn't exist.  While I am not a fan of credit card type tools, I have now determined that I like them a heck of a lot more than wallet replacement tools.  That having been said, there are a few positive comments on this tool on the Nite Ize website so there is apparently a market for this kind of thing, but it is a market I am glad I am not a part of.

I saw one of these in an Academy Sports a couple months ago. My buddy said I needed to get one since I like multitools so much, with this, my wallet could be a tool, too I don't know, though. I like having several pockets and compartments to help keep all of my junk organized.

Anyways, thanks for posting your overview/thoughts Enjoy testing it out and let us know how you are getting on with it (that is, if you intend to carry it)

I always give everything some pocket time because you never know when something will turn out to be useful.  I'm often surprised about what I have a good feeling in that turns out to be garbage or things I think are dumb that turn out excellent.

If I knew instantly what was going to work and what wasn't then the reviews would be really boring!

I know a few people who have given up wallets, and just jam their cards/cash into a phone case, or lacky band them onto the phone case, or I believe there are a few rubber sleave things you can buy for your phone case to hold cash and cards.

Similar sort of theory I suppose, so it may appeal to some people

(as Cracker Factory managers are known to say "It's a market we can do without")


As for the item itself. I like some niteize stuff, but in this case it looks like a stocking filler, impulse buy, novelty gift type thing (i'm speculating wildly based on a single source here, but that's my prerogative)

My thoughts exactly.  I wonder how much money is spent every year by well making people who buy things like this that seem like an interesting idea but really aren't?

On that note, I know of a couple of guys in the FB group that absolutely love their Trayvax wallets.  Go figure.

Well.. unlike this hunkojunk, there was some actual thought put in the Trayvax.
This thing is just a slab of metal with random cutouts on which they tied a rubber string... literally it's the sort of thing we'd do when we were 10-11 years old and goofing off at crafts classes

That wallet's durability depends entirely on those tiny rubber straps.  It wouldn't last a week in my pocket.  I'll stick to my trusty worn in Saddleback slim wallet.  Nothing has ever fallen out of it.

Yup.   $19 Canadian, which right now is about $14.50 USD, which is still way too much for this thing.

so, basically, it is a $19 version of the better equipped $1 card tool, that has been around for years, for rich Canadians.
