Having problems with my Powerlock
on:
September 18, 2008, 03:16:47 AM
I'm having problems with my Powerlock when I open or close it its very difficult to do so. I've tried oiling it but that seems to have no effect. What should I try. I've only had it for half a year and it has only seen light use.

Try loosen the two hex screws that connect plier head to handle.

Huh, can you just take the plier head off and see which pivot is giving you trouble?

I've taken the pliers off and the handles work fine now.

I've tried oiling
Oil attracts dirt, dust and grime = it's better to use powdered graphite on your PL.

You may need to use something to penetrate any gunk that has built up in there. I like to use Break Free CLP for these types of occasions, and I've had good luck with it. I spray it into the joint, work the joint for a while, then blow out the excess with compressed air.
CLP stands for "clean, lube and protect". You can find Break Free CLP at gun stores or in the sporting goods section of WalMart.

The pliers aren't damaged at all.
Will Kroil work?

Why not send it to SOG to fix - that's what you paid for with a limited lifetime warranty

I decided to retire it as I'm not likely to use it now that I have a Wave.

Did you look at the wire cutters? Sometimes when you cut something with them they get bunged up and a burr will keep them from opening and closing properly. All you need to do is go at it with a file until it loosens up.
