Day 29

My trusty Alox Rambler today:

NEED lanyards like that!

It's just a standard Victorinox lanyard, they're quite commonly available in black, orange or red.
Not over here they aren't.
$8 shipping costs on ebay bringing the total to $11 for 1 :(

Where are you based? Am sure there should be cheaper ways to get these (not eBay)  though the last batch I added to a SAK order.
Belgium, Europe

Possibly cheaper for you for shipping than for me then, I got mine from online shops in mainland Europe (I'm in the UK), though next time I place an order for a SAK or accessories from somewhere that has the lanyards, I could get some for you and then send them onto Belgium for you? I'll try to remember to PM you before my next order.

30. Elsie deserves to close the 30 day challenge. This 45 year old Soldier has been my go-to all month. I have newer (or older) and prettier knives of this pattern, but this one is an excellent minimalist workhorse, made before they eliminated all the little manufacturing steps that distinguish these old alox knives from the modern ones. As far as the basics go, this is the best example in my collection. :)

Thanks H for putting this challenge together, it was educational for me and sometimes fun... :ahhh

Good luck to all of the contestants, I enjoyed all of your posts and photos!  :like:

Day 30! It seems to have come around quickly. Echoing Twiglet, I've really enjoyed this challenge - I have  renewed respect for the mighty SI and it's been great to see your pics and choices and read your experiences. Thanks to Hiraethus for organising the challenge.  :salute: Good luck to everyone!

Here's a picture of my breakfast the SI helps prepare every morning:

Day 30...

No picture because I was too busy, but the electric can opener AND the hand can opener failed on my wife, so the can of chili beans was saved by me and the Centurian!

I found a few screws that needed tightened in this rental. I am anxious to get new house finished!!!

The Tinker worked well...

Day 26:
(Attempting it ALL single layer!)

Today the Wenger EvoGrip 64 is on duty. This morning while cooking breakfast, I noted one of the two lamps on the underside of the microwave mounted above the stove was out. These are 4 Watt LED bulbs that were supposed to last forever. The EvoGrip 64 is immediately at hand to remove the lamp cover. It was Wenger's EvoGrip version of the Vic Apprentice.

I remove the lamp and want to get eyes on its socket to see if there's Crudmium plating on the center contact. Impossible for me to get my into position, and lamp box is too narrow for the mirror I'd use. Once again, the polished blade gets eyes on the lamp socket and there's nothing in that would impede the electrons on their appointed rounds.

Time to order a new bulb to replace this one. I got these on Amazon and check there shows they're not only no longer available, but they had developed a reputation in the feedback for premature failure after 6-8 months. Even if they were available, I'd be getting a different brand. Should have a new LED bulb on Tuesday.

The Wenger EvoGrip 64 earns its keep again!

John

This was a good challenge. I was able to use all but one of my SAKs.  The one, is one I'll never use LOL...

One thing it taught me is I am not happy carrying a SAK.  While they are nice, i just don't think they are for me!  Gladly back to my Leatherman Tools....probably the OHT...

The Ambassador is a fine one. IMHO its size makes it preferable to the Classic if there's space for a 74mm on the key ring. I wish Vic would make a 74mm version of a Rambler!

I had similar feelings about them, and then grabbed a SwissCard Classic as the price was too low to pass it by. It's been very, very handy on several occasions. My only fear is forgetting about it being in my wallet when entering a restricted area that prohibits all knives of any size by law. It's not just airports past the TSA checkpoint, it includes courthouses, U.S. Federal buildings, etc.

BACON BACON BACON!!!!

Thanks all.
This was my first ever 30 day challenge, and I appreciate being welcomed into this. It was fun,  interesting,  and I loved seeing everyone contribute in thier own way.  Although I don't have a huge amount of knife inventory,  I'm hoping to join in on a future challenge.
Thanks again!

Day 30

Thank you for this month guys! It's been a pleasure to see all the pictures (even if I haven't been commenting much on them, shame on me).

Today I had a walk since the weather was fairly good (it's been cold and miserable for some time now). With me came my new favorite knife.
