Just now catching up on this thread.  The Signal has been quite busy but more importantly its up for whatever you've thrown at it.  It's nice to see the tool being used for more than what marketing launched it as.

G'Day Aloha,

I have been very happy with the tool so far. I think that using it daily has certainly changed my perceptions (I tried to keep an open mind from Day 1) about the tool. It is still a lot of $$$ for it, but I don't think it is a bad tool. There may be other offerings that will give you more options / tools for less, but that again comes down to personal choice. What I think is that a lot of hype was made through the marketing department and from what we saw initially. I am hoping this challenge will show what it can do as a daily EDC for MY needs. That is also the reason why I am going to keep it in the standard form until the challenge is complete. That way I can give MY opinion on how I found the tool during the 30 days. I will not have the chance to test it as a camping or hiking tool, however, I think that any daily use for an extended period will show any tool's usefulness and limitations.

Cheers,

Pete

G'Day,

Yep, time sure flies when we are having fun.

Day 16

I did not get to do half the stuff I planned on during the day. I have been struggling with one of our mobile network providers to give me a new SIM that actually works. It is frustrating to have to explain oneself over and over to a helpless call centre clerk half way around the world. My current phone takes two sims but being a rugged phone the back has to be screwed on and off. This was the only duty, other than lunch food preparation, I did today.

So hopefully tomorrow I will get out again. I have to put the pannier racks back on for a Christmas toy and blanket charity run on Sunday. I am looking forward to it, it will be the first time I take my son out on the motorbike. I will take some pics then too. Maybe not with the Signal deployed, the nanny state troopers might just have a hernia attack!!!

So another easy day, from a hot Sydney

Cheers,

Pete

It's good to see this Pete :tu:  As year ago I got mine and carried it daily for at least 3 months.  It never let me down as far as I remember.  I am a light user though, so if I had more demanding needs, it would have been a better test.  Still, it proved sufficient for me.

G'Day Monrogue,

I'm a light-ish user too and that's why I think it is a good tool for my daily needs. If I would go on a holiday I will most certainly take my Charge. I am using the challenge too as an excuse to use the tool where I would normally use dedicated tools ie. attaching the pannier racks to the bike. Are you going to do the challenge in January?

Cheers,

Pete

G'Day

Day 17

Today was a very good day. I had a good shift at work and got to use the Signal in the garage attaching pannier racks again.

I also got to take my son on his maiden test ride before our run on Sunday. There is something special sharing passions between father and son. He off coarse loved the ride. It was very hot to start with, 38 degrees and the only jacket I had that fitted him was a semi-vented leather jacket. Even with that and a pretty red face he was smiling from ear to ear at the first water stop. We spent about an hour on the bike in and out of traffic. We then had a Subway sandwich dinner and got rained on on the way home. The temperature fell to 20 degrees. This was all in about two hours of the afternoon. All is dry now, except for our jackets and he is looking forward to a good ride on Sunday.

Have a good evening folks,

Pete

I would likely carry something more robust as well if I were traveling.  However, I think my Signal would serve me well for my needs.  I could always bring a backup multi just in case ;)  I probably will do the challenge.  I'll miss my G1 Wave though, but I really like my Signal, so I'll manage :)

G1 Wave is an awesome tool. That is a tough challenge for the Signal to be up against.  ;)

G'Day

Day 18

Well, today was a pretty uneventful day. I had a longish shift at work and was happy to get home. I got the boy to help me pack the bike for tomorrow's run and are really excited about that. I will post a few of the pics of bikes and folk doing some good deeds for the people less fortunate that some of us.

I got some Lego out again for the pics for today. The light was not to good, so pics are a little "soft". We will have lots of sun tomorrow for great photos.

'Till tomorrow, enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Pete

G'Day,

Day 19

We had a fantastic day today.

The much awaited Annual Toy and Blanket run and the first run for our son on the motorcycle. I don't think he slept much either last night... In total we did 262km for the day. We met all the other riders about an hour away from Sydney up the Central Coast at a place called The Entrance. It is famous for Pelicans and pelican feeding. There were around 50 bikes in total - mostly Harley Davidsons. Three of us were on BMW's and there was one Bimota. Some of the bikes were decorated with XMas stuff and soft toys tied to most of them. I packed out gifts in the soft panniers. The weather could not have been any better too. We had a shortish ride to the local Salvation Army where we handed all our stuff over knowing that in a months time there will be a few more happy people sharing the festive spirit with us. It was also encouraging to see quite a few young faces and they will hopefully follow in their parents footsteps and carry on this tradition. I have been attending Toy Runs since I bought my first bike years ago in South Africa. It is good to know that there is still some humanity left in the world when I see the number of people that were there today. It certainly helps me appreciate what we have and also show the kids that life can be tough and unforgiving sometimes, BUT that there are others that will help. All in All we left feeling on a hight and with a full tummy thanks to a sausage sizzle (local Ozzie sausage in a slice of bread) they put on for us.

So today's pictures are more about the run that the Signal. It did come out this afternoon when I got to prepare our dinner. Three good size Cattleman's beef steaks for the four of us. They were no match for the sharp blade!!!

Enjoy the pics

Cheers,

Pete

Ok maybe a few more things.  What a wonderful event and no better way to share it with than with your son.  Thank you for taking us along and sharing such a terrific day you had.  Thanks also for giving a smurf about others as well.

He needs a bigger helmet just to fit his grin in. He took to it like a duck to water.

Thanks Aloha. The pics don't show the emotions and there was plenty of that. There are times when a camera just doesn't fit and we just pause for a while taking it all in.

It was a very good day

G'Day,

Day 20

Today was another very nice day in Sydney. I booked a test ride on BMW's latest Scrambler and visited the Surplus store. The bike was a hoot, pity it had knobby tires on though. I am used to a large screen and was surprised at the wind blast around 100kmh. If I needed a ride that did not involve the extensive touring I do, this will be it. And the sound WOW, Akro did a fantastic job on that!!! It is worth while riding just to hear it.

Now on to the Signal. Not to much to do today. Got to use the screwdriver to open and clean my garage remote. I also use the can opener for dinner duties. We are having tiny meatballs in tomato sauce - Italian style!!! I also stropped the blade a few times and it is good to go again.

Tomorrow may be another busy day, I have a day off and might just go for another ride!!!

Cheers,

Pete

G'Day

Day 20 Continued

Got to use the Signal again. The mobile phone provider finally sent my sim card today and got the thing connected. It took a lot of patience and tongue biting on my side to get through the call. I find it hard to understand that a company that provides a service has such poor customer service. But I degress, it is connected and I don't have to chat to them for a looooooong time... I hope

I also got some MT withdrawals  :D  :ahhh Probably the downside of doing a Challenge and having to many choices!!!

I took the Charge out to pose for a couple of pics with the Signal. AHHHH Ti, how good does that feel in the hand!!! I love the Charge Ti. I also got to use a new bit in the bit kit and it also wanted in on the pictures. So without further ado here they are.

Have a good night folks.
