I have been considering a Surge since all new discussions and challenges.
Yet, have one question, maybe two.
If I understand correctly, the file and saw are interchangeable to the same exchange fitting?

If that is correct, are there different files types that are made as the saw blades?

For a larger MT I use and find the ST300 fits many of my needs, I also, use my Rebar for smaller jobs and when I need the added SEX appeal a Rebar has.  Yet, of late, my Wave sees EDC work duty, for the file, both sides as required for rough and or fine work. And, the saw for fitting plastic conduit and cleaning edges on broken wood pieces.  The OH blade compliment as well is handy why the Surge interest, if I can have it all in the bigger package.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yes, the file and saw are interchangeable :tu: They only make the one file for it but it is the same type as the Wave file  It will take t-shank saws as well and I have a couple of those with me as well when I carry :tu: Never used them but I have them  :D It comes with a small sleeve to house them in that slips into the extra pocket of the sheath as well :like:

Can't wait to hear your thoughts on it after some use and congrats on it :tu: Also can't wait to see what kind of bit mods you have in mind  :tu: :like:

Congrats on the Surge, they are a great tool.  After a few hours you won't even notice it on your belt.  I carried one for years with the full bit kit, saw blades, 1/4" drive ratchet, and extension.  The combination pulled me out the mire many times over the years I daily carried it.

I'd recommend a good moly sheath like a skinth, or a good leather sheath like Gohard makes (depends on your material preference). The stock leatherman ones don't last long nowadays, though I did find the nylon lasted longer than their moly ones.

A couple of fine tooth jigsaw blades are always worth carrying as well. They will save you a walk to go get a saw.

That edc combo is serious stuff! If I were a tougher man, that is similar to what I would EDC. The BN 600 is fantastic for twisting heavy bailing wires and as a secondary pliar for bolts.
I would drop the micra and sak on the key chain.  Instead I'd have a sak explorer in a pocket for fine scissors, grooming,  etc. I use the loop often too. But, the Surge, mp600 bn, big knife, and compact light would be all ya ever needed. :tu:

I would not have buyers remorse! I would not worry if it is too big for some folks, but is it too big for you? I sometimes carry a Surge and it happily sits in a sheath on my belt. Right next to it is an LG  V10 mobile phone in a Maxepedition holster. I do not even notice it is there!  I prefer a larger multitool and do not care about how much it weighs. I actually even prefer a heavier tool. For some reason, it just gives me a feeling of confidence in it!!   >:D :D

Day two of carry and I have no issues at all. The only time I notice its there is when I undo my belt  :o ! I even used it this morning to tighten the handle on the sunroom door, open some packages at work and used the pliers to hold an a threaded insert. So far loving it.

There is a pocket clip for it. :pok:

But, you'd need carbide liners to protect your pockets. :D

My work jeans have a leather tape measure  place on the pocket and I think that would work in all seriousness. But, at my job, I am allowed to carry anything I want. My bosssaid I could carry a belt covered in knives, MTs, and tools if I needed them(I will test his resolve one day and post pics!.----I'm Batman.

Went to work for several weeks with my Charge clipped inside my waistband

But since I work in an office environment with sheeples around, a Surge on my side will cost me my job

The harder part was all the accessories I wanted to carry with my Surge.  The Surge itself while heavy became part of my day to day do outfit.  A good belt and the position on the belt made it "easier" to carry every day.

I just realized that the nylon sheath that came with the Surge does have loops for horizontal carry. Might give that a go next week for work.

I actually like horizontal carry on some things.  I like 2pm on the right side as I can grab the tool with either hand.  I also keep pretty empty pockets so it kinda balances my left side which has my wallet and keys.

Came home from work tonight to a package on the table. The Surge has arrived! It's not as big, bulky or heavy as I was anticipating. I'm super stoked to start carrying it. I have already hit the garage and found an old bit kit in a non used toolbox that i will take to work tomorrow and give it a work over in the grinding room to accessorize my new Surge. The only confusion I had from the purchase was the model number. They advertised 830160 and I received 830859. I think it is just a matter of the sheath but I asked the seller anyhow. It is definite the newer model and not old stock. Glad to be part of the Surge Owners Club!
Congrats. I think the 830160 comes with "Premium Leather Sheath" and 830859 comes with a nylon sheath which is actually better IMO.

Yes, I believe you are right. I reached out to the seller and it was s mistake. I just wanted to make sure I was paying for the current model. So far I really like the nylon sheath.
