Thomas Coffee

I usually buy cheap, crappy coffee. I get it from Aldis or Ruler in the big 'tub-o-coffee' plastic containers.

Because I'm cheap.

But one of my local grocers had a clearance on small cans of Thomas Coffee recently. Thomas is a fairly small company in the St. Louis area, and they have REALLY GOOD coffee. At least 'really good' compared to what I usually get. Not like it's been pooped out by a palm civet or anything. It's just usually way more expensive than I want to pay for.

And as a bonus to my sick addiction of making wood-stoves out of cans, the coffee comes in a steel can. So it'll either become a wood-gas stove or billycan when the coffee is gone.

I went outside today to mess around, got basically chilled to the bone, came in and had an EXCELLENT cup of coffee to warm up. Yes, I had a cup of coffee so good I thought it was worth posting about.

I LOVE steel coffee cans. And it is quite the benefit to get them for 'free' with my coffee.

Sorry you don't drink coffee. I started drinking it when I walked past a coffee roaster every day for several months. It was the smell that got me. I love... LOVE the smell of fresh roasted coffee. And from there...it was kind of like with Swiss Army Knives and Leatherman tools. Sad addiction.

I take mine neat, and way to much of it, but I've been awake since 01:42........how else am I supposed to get through a day

Poop coffe is a nice combination of overrated and animal abuse. I've had it, and it's good coffee, but in no way exceptional.

I think the key its quality was civets would only eat the correctly ripened coffee. Nowadays, on cause of the price of the coffee, civets are kept under bad conditions and coffee they can't choose themselves, removing the key component to the quality of the original coffee.

High quality coffees, free of animal abuse, is actually better than the palm civet processed ones nowadays.

I'm sort of a coffee nerd, that's correct...

I had a cat years ago, after dealing with litterbox.... the thought of that is just inconceivable . Anyway, I kinda just use keurig nowadays, prefer the dark roasts from Starbucks or Peets, Civet is a darker evil roast

I love the smell of fresh coffee.  It's the taste I don't like, and I have had some extremely fine coffees when I was a guest of several ship captains over the years.  Just not my thing.

Megan on the other hand, spends craploads of money on good coffee.  I know, because I often used to have to buy it for her since she only drank this small batch roasted stuff from a certain coffee shop in Halifax that I passed almost every day for work.  It is still her favorite, but as it's about 1,000 miles out of our way nowadays, she doesn't drink it as much!   

After trying some of the local places and finding their coffees passable but still not to her taste, she has discovered good coffee in probably the last place one would expect it- Costco.  She seems to really like the Zavida brand there, even better than the small batch, hand roasted coffees of the local hipster places- which is a huge surprise as she is very much a closet hipster.

I don't know much about coffee, but if you are near Costco you may want to give that stuff a try.

We JUST got a membership to Costco about 2 weeks ago.

When I run through this coffee, I'll give that a try.

On being a hipster.    Seriously, though, i don't care if it's obscure or mainstream. I just know what I like. A few years ago, I was forced by dire circumstance to get a cup of coffee at McDonalds, and it turns out whatever McD's has changed their coffee to is REALLY good. As in 'why are people paying absurd prices for Starbucks again?' good. But then, I just get coffee, not latte or anything froofy.

For the record, black, one sugar.

Also for the record, Thomas is regular coffee, not instant or anything like that, although it is pre-ground.

Fortunately I won't be tempted to try poop coffee here on the smurf-end of the world.....

Few years ago Slow Town Coffee Roasters opened up locally, they import and roast themselves, so I get coffee there as well as Hessian bags to make micarta! 

Since I stopped using milk or sugar, I found out what real coffee is, and also found out what I like, more specifically dark roasts.

I cannot imagine life without good black coffee......

A few years ago McDonald's saw the writing on the wall and spent craploads of money to revamp their coffee and hot beverage offerings, rebranding it as McCafe. For the longest time they were giving it away just to try and convince people to try it.  So many folks still resist McDonald's but everyone I know who has tried their coffee loves it, and almost everyone says it is better than Tim Hortons coffee.  If you've ever been to Canada then you know Timmies isn't a coffee shop, it's an institution, so people opting to go to McCafe instead of Tim Hortons is huge.

I'm probably one of the few people in the world over the age of 10 that openly admits that I love McDonald's- the food and the company, so I'm really thrilled that they have become a powerhouse in the coffee world too.

Here in Spain McDonnald's coffee is very good too, way better than KFCs', Vienna's, Burger King's and similar.
They definitely improved it over the years

Peets major dickason is my favorite, starbucks verona also, after you try these you will do a spit take at most other brands

I tend to prefer cheap tea bags. Taste the same as expensive stuff and more money in my wallet.

Also, I have no issue with McDonalds. Can't go wrong with their straight up cheeseburger and breakfast burritos.
