Best-est PC Game Controller!
on: December 02, 2008, 10:17:00 AM
Reading about games here (and other places) I was thinking I'd like to get back to some
simple, inexpensive, and fun games on my PC, like zelda, metroid, diablo, abe's oddworld;
dungeon master,etc but I hate using the mouse or keyboard;
can you recommend me a good controller that you like?

thx all  ;)

There's loads of USB PS2 controller clones on the market... I bought one for about 10 or 15eur with force feedback even... although I rarely use anything besides kb/mouse

In the old days I used to swear by logitech game controllers... I still have several non usb era controllers kicking about somewhere. Now I use all logitech mouse/keyboard combos.

I have a thrustmaster steering wheel which is great for driving games, and wasn't too expensive as it was an older model when I got it.

I also have a great Saitek flightstick that was killer for flightsims etc, only cost about $20 cdn unfortunately I got it pre USB era, and now I rarely plug it in as it was a PITA to configure/calibrate for short term use.
The difficult we do immediately, the impossible takes a little longer.

The xbox 360 controller will work for most windows based games.  I'm not sure what you need, but I have seen it work.

I like The Claw:

Great for FPS games when paired with a good mouse.

I considered a very similar thing once...

I keep looking at that one as well, but since I don't play games much anymore it seems kind of like a waste.

I've had that Nostromo n50 since it came out and it's still working fine. Great for FPS. I would get one of the newer updated models. That with a mouse and you'll be in FPS Heaven!  :tu:

I have a Logitech mx1000 laser wireless mouse (the first one!) and a Logitech G15 (2nd edition) Keyboard.

Loving them both.

It's not just useful for games. Because it can be programmed to perform multiple keystrokes with a single keypress, many users of apps such as Photoshop and various video editing suites use them to automate certain processes,

I have the n52 and the newer n52te and they're great. Out of the two, I'd say the original is better, but that's more to do with the software not being a pile of crap.

I've got a G15 keyboard, and it really does make a difference playing quake as the key presses are 100% reliable. I forget what model number my mouse is, but it's the Logitech laser one, with the weight cartridge and the anti-tangle cord. In fact I have three of those as they are just good mice. Mice doesn't sound right  :think: It definitely isn't mouses though....
I used to come here a lot.
