Father's day
on: November 29, 2018, 09:30:57 PM
My dad told me he want's to order a knife from me....his own design.
I'm pretty sure partly to support my endeavor.........but I out-foxed him by giving him a voucher for one of my knives for his 73rd birthday in July.....

Got his design after some nagging......after some consultation the remainder of a Nicholson halfround was chosen...

1st forging session....

Dad's design:

At this point I was cleaning the tang on a baby belt grinder......which grabbed and threw the blade with two brass anchors attached into the cement floor........which just proved what the acid revealed about my heat threat

More to follow

Thanks everybody  :salute:

I learned an important lesson making this knife, it's not something I'd normally have made, but everybody that seen it loves it.

My one big concern was weight and balance thanks to all that brass, but despite having a nice thin blade the knife balances on the front guard

I posted these 11pm....until I couldn't see straight.......I'll try to get the last pics up tonight.  It's 99% done and my Dad has started with his sheath.......he's my new leather man

Thanks again for the compliments and positive feedback.....very much appreciated  :salute:

Thanks Tony  :salute:

That extremely pointy tip had a small roll that you could just barely catch with a fingernail.....

Which reminds me, I'll have to upload and link my tip test video......

Thanks again everybody

Monday morning and all I have for you is excuses, but I think you'll understand when I share the photos of what we did this "weekend"

Saturday evening I had Handi Chicken from my regular Indian place, followed by the best nights' sleep I've had in months.

Working yourself to a standstill seems to be healthy......lots of that in my future  :salute:

The knife is currently a bit further along, but I had some issue with the final polish of the handle that will be addressed when my Dad is done with the sheath.

In the mean time.....this happened Saturday and is currently my excuse for everything

This garage was the Tardis' sensei.......not since the late 70's

This is some of it....

But wait, there's more!......this is most of what I use to make knives, I was happy to find there's very little unused items

By 11am stuff lying in the sun was literally too hot to touch.......we were done somewhat after 3pm

"Done" until I build a few more of these and get everything mounted and wired up again

43 is starting to feel old......
