Day 8

Churchill today and a Camillus US Navy Utility

No action shot but used the Churchill to open a package of hardware for a new lockset for a client.

I'm really enjoying seeing these traditional knives.  :dd:

Good pics and trads, y'all! :like:

Day 8:

These are pretty collectible, but this one has a broken scale(glued back together - though not by me), so don't mind using it.  :)

Ron Who - Day 5 - Hubertus with Roe Deer

Saint Hubertus is the patron saint of hunters, much like Saint Peter of fishermen.
It´s no wonder then that Hubertus manufacture mostly hunting knives.
Personally, I like hunting with a camera, not a rifle.

The odd piece of metal sticking out at the back of the knife is in fact the backlock lever.

The Remington Folding Guard Lockback is a favorite of mine, but doesn't go well with my work carry. Week off work is a great time to enjoy it and others.  :woohoo:

Bonus - Thanks for the comments on this trapper.
The blade is marked Sabre, Japan, 617.

I used the Skinning blade most and fouled the belly of the blade on a grinder a long time ago. Takes a edge and held its sharpness very well.

I trapped Muskrats by my grandparents to keep the rodents from destroying the drainage ditch banks.  I received about .75 for each skin, I thought for a bounty, learned they worth twice that.

The rabbits were gathered with my 20ga.  I received .30 ea for them. The fur was wanted for linings to gloves by two sisters that lived at nearby farm. If I did not have the dogs I would have snared rabbits.

I have seen metal sticking out of other traditional knives and was wondering if it serves a purpose? Thanks

I don´t think it serves any other purpose than to unlock the blade. However, comparing to e.g. the Buck 110 knife with the countersunk locking lever I think this may be an older design. Which is odd because I always thought Buck was the inventor of backlock knives. Maybe someone else knows.

For more on Saint Hubertus see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hubertus
