Multitools in a will
on: December 13, 2008, 12:03:22 AM
So you can't take em with you. Who are you gonna leave your treasures to when you kick the bucket? I'm thinking if Multitool.org is around in a hundred years when i croak i will have someone put them on here and have a pick a number contest for all of mine. Least someone here will take care of them.

I'm hoping to have a son by then if not a grand kid who would appreciate them as much as I do, if not maybe MultiTool.org will have a museum by then where an example of each and every SAK and MT call home.

I sm not leaving mine to anyone here- you never know how much that might shorten my natural lifespan!  :P

Seriously, it is something I have considered in the past.  My wife says she doesn't want to part with them and will keep them because they were important to me, but I told her to talk to some of the more prominent members here to help her liquidate them and not get screwed.  Multitool.org members will have first crack of course... :D

Chances are your Vitara will catch fire long before then... :P

I have actually seriously considered a SAK and/or Multitool museum that folks could visit and see all the different tools, but I can't imagine it would be all that popular....

I'm taking mine with me. I have this dream:

I'm standing outside the gates of Heaven (funny, I'm optimistic in my dreams...) without my multitool and Saint Peter is pulling at the lock. "D--n this thing," he exclaims. "If I just had a screwdriver, I could jimmy the latch and let you in. Sorry, buddy. Looks like you're headed south..." :o

If I change my mind, I plan on leaving my MTs to my niece. That way she and her boyfriend can use my pristine Swisstool handles as a hammer to put nails in the wall on which to hang their Britney Spears poster (picture me here rolling in my grave like one of those flaming logs in "Spartacus"). :ahhh

I have been involved with disposing of items from a few estates.  It was an experience which altered my perspective on the importance of collections and other worldly possessions.  They usually mean a lot more to the original owner than they do to anyone else.  Disposing of such things is apt to impose a burden on the surviving family.

I have four kids. Two I wouldn't trust as far as I could throw them. My oldest girl will get one or two because I would want her to have them to give to my grandson and her hubby (which I love).

The rest would go to my youngest boy (he knows the usefullness and value of them) His mother already said that they are not going anywhere but I told her that it will be his collection and that he can do whatever he wants with it. (trouble is after your dead you have no say anymore).

Going thru my fathers house, I was wanting to know about alot of stuff. But that info died with him.

I involve my boy with almost all my knife and tool purchases (even though it drives him crazy) at least that way he will have a little history of each piece.

I am still young to think about it but I am hoping at least one of my unborned kids and my unborned grandsons would like to continue the collection. If no one would like I am guessing I would prefer them to get sold to other collectors (so my kids will get the money and other collectors will enjoy them).

Nah, he meant buried by a farmer. He's just trying to save money on the funeral.

I reckon my daughter would want mine, in fact she might not wait till I'm gone  ::)
