I need some opinions on this.

I'd buy the ratchet holster variant. I'm even one of those horizontal carry weirdos.

The first I have seen this. It's a bit funny that he made the video without watching the how-to videos I published. Fortunately he caught himself on that detail. (mostly)
His video does have some good points, I didn't realize how much folks would want the 4mm over the flat bits.

I'm with him, and I'm very thankful you were willing to make it. So thank you!

I finally got around to ordering the prototypes for the Ratchet Driver. Including a ratchet holder version of the P4 holster, not guarantees on that yet.

Also, for the past month I have been working on my own storefront, powered by Shopify.
Initially it will be stocked with just Shapeways sourced products, along with Amazon affiliate links for items which I can't stock.

The main goal of the shop will be to reduce the confusion with all the variants and options available. The FREE P4 holster for example comes in more than 45 different configurations, and that doesn't even include the different color options.

Feel free to visit the site and sign up to be notified. (Link in the image)

They were supposed to arrive today, but alas UPS Mail Innovations means UPS kicks your package around and then give it to the USPS to guarantee it suffers as much abuse and delay as possible.

Well the parts arrived, but I am now very frustrated.

I ordered four prototype products for the Ratchet driver. Three of them have identical retention mechanisms.
The holster works beautifully, it snaps into place and isn't too loose or too tight. The micro carrier however required a whole ton of filing. (Nylon doesn't file well)
The 1/4" hex opening at the bottom on the holster is too loose, and the one on the micro carrier is perfect.

Then there was the handle. Again the same retention geometry, but this time I had to file about 2x material away, and it still doesn't have the nice snap of the holster, just a dull press fit.
Finally, the deluxe handle. It had looser tolerances so that the bits could slide in and out, and relied on magnets. However, it is super tight and nothing slides without jamming up.

SLS 3D printing typically holds a tolerance of +/- 0.2mm, but today it didn't. Some of the dimensions are off by 0.5mm. I think the issue is that Shapeways isn't fully cleaning out the internal powder before dying the parts, and the parts end up with the loose powder glued inside.

At this point I can tweak the tolerances and hope they aren't too loose, or just wait until I have access to a Fuse 1. Considering the production and shipping takes a month, I may end up with the Fuse 1 before I can receive another order.

Sorry to hear they didn't arrive exactly as expected  I am very hopeful that this will be a very awesome addition to EDC though :dd: If you are planning on getting a 3D printer then it might be best just to wait :dunno: then you can perfect it at your leisure  :like:

ZapWizard.com is now open for business. I spend a lot of time on this website, making sure everything works great. Currently all the printed items are still fulfilled by Shapeways, but that may change in time.
I also finished the designs for the Ratchet drive accessories. I can now print up my prototypes on a Fuse 1, so that will save time on future developments. It's not my own Fuse 1, so I won't be able to do any production runs on it.

Looking forward to the horizontal holster with ratchet clip!

I'll wait until that's released as I'll  be ordering a bunch of other bits and pieces and that Shapeways shipping to Oz is steep!

On another note, just thought I'd flag this YouTube video:

Not sure if you're aware of this fellow or not and maybe there's some relationship there I'm not aware of,  but if not it just seems a bit like he's misrepresenting your work as his. In the comments he's even discussing charging to make some modifications for another YouTuber.

@Michael
He also posted a follow-up video with my name since he wanted to live with the mods before promoting anything:

Sorry for the lack of new things (such as the ratchet added holster)/. I have been working on some other projects.

I have spent some time to get the ratchet design to work on all the tools so can update them all at once, but it is harder to fit to the Wave and others without it protruding. So soon that will get the P4 holster with ratchet driver ready to order for folks.

At the request of a customer I designed a shorty version of my Leatherman Ratchet Driver handle.
This one is specifically designed to fit half of the awesome Wiha 77781 tehcnician bit refill kit.

Also, I am now offering a custom install service. See my website in signature for details.

I have both the large handle that fits the regular 1/4 inch bits and the micro handle that fits the LM flat bits but that looks awfully tempting :dwts:

Untitled by Zap Wizard, on Flickr

I discovered you can use the FREE P4 sort of like a T-Handle, with the ratchet driver as a nice extender. This came in handy when replacing my Dad's yard cart carbonator.

I had a few customers request a comb for their Leatherman FREE series.  This was a fun quick project.

Okay, it's been a while, but the release of the Garage #5 got me going again.

First off the Garage #5 (with a few mods) is to culmination of everything I wanted in a multitool.

First off here is a short video showing the mods I have already made to my #5:

And here is a 48 minute video showing how I did it all, along with other design details.

Over on Reddit I made a post showing some interesting details regarding the blade design:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Leatherman/comments/15dt2gu/leatherman_garage_5_blade_rendered_in_detail/

Back in June of 2022 I rendered up what I called the FREE Z1. I invite you to compare the toolset to the Garage #5.

I have spent today 3D modeling the new tools, and designing a new holster for the Garage #5. I will be physically prototyping it soon.
The images below are renderings.

And per a customer request I designed The Barnacle, a scale-mounted compact single bit holder.
We will see if this needs glue or can snap into place.

$275, it sold out immediately, and I still want one. :( Glad I can at least live vicariously through your tinkering with it!

Hey @ZapWizard, I assume your t-shank adaptor for the Free series will fit the #005/Arc ok? I’m thinking of replacing the scissors in order to fit a serrated T blade. Thanks.

@Cynan: I assume so. In the case of the Garage 5 the hinges, scales etc.. are all the same as the FREE series. But I can’t say for certain until it is released.
