Me too! "Guaranteed Delivery - October 2" says the vendor, but that might not take into account the balky pack mule for the mailbox delivery out here on the Mesa...

Here it is. Oak with a drop point. I like it, although it's sort of stiff right now.

Just got my Ranger today and am thinking about joining the challenge if I could warm up to it or get it to a more satisfactory state...

There is much gunk in this new knife, I literally need to sharpen a chopstick to pry it off the inside of the handle(the toothpick can't do it), and the joint is gritty and need to flush out the with nano oil and compressed air.  The false edge on the clip point is chipped  , and I am thinking how best to repair that tomorrow.  The grind is not straight and a little uneven side to side, I probably will have a hard time to fix this...

However, on a more positive note, the knife is hefty and solid as expected, and it does come quite sharp. :tu:

The knife is quite a bit fatter than  I expected.  It's not really practical for pants pocket carry for me, but I might get used to it.   No worries though, I had an uncontrolled mouse click and a Ranger with the plastic/ fiber scales and pocket clip is in my pocket now and I really like it.

I have a 112 Slim Select w/Clip that I carry regularly.

Also, a 112 Slim Pro+ which is very nice.

The brass 112 will ride in backpocket as well as in a sheath.

For me the 3” blade is about perfect for my daily needs.

You should enjoy either CountryDirt!

Wow, that's surprising.

Many of my Bucks have needed to be 'degunked' when new out of box. I'm not sure why that is the case. However, it usually has only required a little hot soapy water and some oil. Maybe a wipe with a rag or poke with a toothpick. Sounds like your experience has been much more intense.

The ding in the false edge is a bit odd, too.  If you don't want to send it back to Buck, You might use a bit of sandpaper wrapped around a dowel to smooth it out. Just a thought.

Sorry your first experience with a Ranger has gotten off to a rocky start. Work with it a bit and I'm confident you'll warm up to it--a challenge might be just the thing.  ;)

Thanks Jack!  I too was a little surprise, this is the 4th knife on the same 'pattern'(110 and 55 previously), and they were all pretty good.  This particular knife 'pattern' was closer to heart than most others, and I always have higher expectation to it than usual.  Dowel with sandpaper is a great idea to fix the false edge.  I kinda get over it soon after, and just contemplating whether I should regrind it to make it even from side to side.

I know Buck has a great warranty, and your trip to their factory kinda inspired me to get this new knife and to join challenge, in a way to support those good folks.  The part that suck most being a knife enthusiast oversea is the incapacity to take advantage of those warranties.   Unless the knife has really high value, I tend to just try to fix it myself.

I think you are right, a challenge is probably just what I need!  But before that, let me try to fix it first... :salute:

Just used Workshop to touch up and repair my axes for Choptober, then use it on my newly acquired Ranger.  Repair the grind side-to-side to make it look more even(not 100%, but I kinda like the original wider bevel at the tip of the clip point), repair the dinged-up false edge, and added a thumb stud add-on while I'm at it(hope this is allowed since this is not a mod, but please do let me know if it isn't).

I think I'm now ready to roll with this!  :D
