Super Tinker I bought for myself when I graduated school back in '88.

I still have it. I carried it daily, everywhere. Everywhere. Hiking. Camping. Biking. Work. Fixes a lot of stuff. Cut a lot of stuff. Cross country. I was never without it. I carried it up until about 2012. At that point, I had dropped it down the stairs onto a factory floor and the solid cellidor scale shattered. I glued it with some epoxy and kept on with it. A short while later it fell again - this time a couple of stories and onto blacktop asphault , where it promptly got run over by a truck.

When I reached that little Super Tinker, the layers were bent shut at the end where it had landed hard, the cellidor had fractured and shattered in new places, the outermost layer and brass peg was scraped up, and the cross and shield inlay began peeling out of place on a scale that was just hanging on.

So I did the only thing I could think of. I picked up the pieces and glued it back together with epoxy. This time I also wrapped it in an elastic, which I had to unroll every time I wanted to use the main blade.

My boss and mentor at the time saw the damage and was kind enough to get me a Tinker Deluxe that Christmas, which I carried until about 2 or three years ago when I found this place.

From here I got into contact with someone who sent me two new sets of red cellidor. I spent the better part of the day using my Leatherman (um...I had only one Leatherman at the time, mind you...a PST 2) and some Craftsman screw drivers to pry the layers apart so I could actually move the tools open. I cleaned and oiled it and slapped the new cellidor on it, and rotated that Super Tinker out with the Tinker Deluxe!

By last year or so, I had amassed about a dozen Swiss Army Knives, and have just retired that 31 year old Super Tinker. It lives in a case with others.

Now I primarily carry my old Vic Ranger or the Tinker Deluxe or a Huntsman. But that was my first.

My "first" Swiss Army was a Wenger/Buck collaboration.  The ubiquitous SwissBuck.  I thought it looked cool in the blister-pack at the Army/Navy Store I frequent.

Good one TB,
That first sak of mine never left my side except for school, one summer my uncle took me under his wing so I could see the real world of plumbing, and that was the only tool I had, I even remember walking into a prison to fix a toilet, the guard was walking with me and my uncle and notta, but then all of a sudden this voice came out of no where, “tell the kid to lose the knife”! So then he notices and says to just take it out of the sheath and put it in my pocket, here I thought I was going to get beat down!

Yet since I gave the older kid one 4yrs ago and it was time to give the younger one his, I couldn’t give him one that they would confuse right? And since I got one in the deal I had to do something too, so I modified his to his fav character just like I did,

That's quite a story ThundahBeagle! Your Super Tinker served you well and it is cool that you still have it!

Thanks for sharing your story!

My first was a Spartan for Christmas from Santa, I went through all the other presents, and unwrapped the tiny box last, only to realise it was the best one of all  :D Had the MacGyver passion going strong . This was back in '88 or 89, sadly long since lost. Currently carrying a black Spartan my sister in law brought back for the factory with my name engraved on it  :tu:

I got my first as a present from my father around 1993. Macgyver was clearly the reason i was into them. At that point he had to talk to some friends in western europe to get one for me. It was the wenger major, 1 23 03, the evo 23 nowadays. Still have it, although with issues. The short tool springs are not working as supposed to anymore, the magnifying glass is no more, etc...

It has stories behind, indeed :))  have used and abused it and it stood in one piece. Thought for a while about sending it in, on the other hand it's just normal wear and tear and they can't make it like it was back then. Now it's being used only for light stuff around the house.

This is my very first victorinox, given to me by my father about 10 years ago. Classic SD. He gave me a beat up wenger about 20 years ago but I don't like their scissors.
