Would it be rude to ask just how big Karls collection was?
I'm intrigued to know.
My collection is miniscule compared to the Big Guns here like Chako's and I'm led to believe that Karls legacy dwarfed Chako's collection... and then some  :o

My mind boggles :ahhh
I don't claim to know it all, but what I do know is right.

As to the question on how big is the collection;  I do believe the information is out there at least to persons who may have been interested in purchasing the collection.
I don't know who they are since I didn't inquire, but ColoSwiss' collection, including Victorinox and Wenger, is a tad over 3,500 pieces.
Rest in peace ColoSwiss, you will always be remembered.

Update:
It has now been a little over a year of custodianship and one task I have taken on is numbering the plastic boxes as seen in the photo below.

I was finding it difficult to locate any given knife as there are approximately 240 plastic boxes to go through.  I know it must have been intuitive for ColoSwiss to find any of his knives, but for me it was a challenge which is why I decided on the numbering system.  I have the excel spreadsheet that thankfully Karl had created and by adding one column for "box number" I will now be able to locate a knife in seconds.  I'm still working on completing the project and it is a labor of love.

I will want to do the same for my side of the collection when done with his.  I realize how unorganized I am after working with Karl's collection.  He had so much attention to detail in his records.

You can see the number stickers on the left side of the boxes:

Rest in peace ColoSwiss, you will always be remembered.

Good to know you’re ‘cataloging’ everything!  :tu:

I’ve been wondering if you had it all done and put it all away or something.

Have you already shown us your favorites so far?

That must be difficult to sort out that many number of SAKs.  I don't know that's desirable, but would you consider sorting them in similar fashion as SAKwiki?

I used to lump everything in cluster here and there in the past, but ever since systematically arranging based on length and brand, the sorting and locating is so much easier now.

The only challenge now is to leave enough room for future expansion.  :D

I haven't, once I get through cataloging it will be easier.

Sorting them in SAKwiki fashion sounds like a good idea.   :like: I may try that with my set first since it is a smaller collection.

At this time I have been busy getting ColoSwiss' sub-collections up to date.  He liked the yearly Classic Limited Editions and yearly Alox trios, so I have secured those for him.
He also has many of the VSAKCS knives.  I just joined that club in order to order the 2020 version.  He is still missing 2001, 2018, and 2019, although I do have a possible lead for the 2019 one.
One thing I've struggled with is how to post his knives giving credit to him.  I recall seeing a comment from member Huntsman earlier in this thread about the sandstone background.
I looked into it and noticed this entry from Karl back in 2012:

After a quick Google search of Lyons Sandstone I got in touch with the company and explained that I'd be interested in a small slab to use as a photography backdrop and showed them this photo that Karl had taken:

A few emails later and a quick PayPal payment, I had the sandstone in route to me.  Here's an Executive knife on the sandstone from my side of the collection.

Then it hit me, I'd use the sandstone as a backdrop whenever I showcase one of Karl's knives.
So in the future, if there's a sandstone backdrop, it's from Karl's side.  I do keep the collections separate at this time.  It has been important to me to keep Karl's as up to date as possible and to keep it together as long as possible, it just seems right at this time.  My biggest hope is that I've made Karl and his family proud.
Rest in peace ColoSwiss, you will always be remembered.

Brilliant idea FB.

I always loved those sandstone backdrops to many/most of his pictures

You really are honouring the man and his collection - and preserving and maintaining its traditions and themes

This is just great - Well done  :tu:

And looking forward to putting a few more CS/FB images into the Wiki.
