Big Data Mentions Analytics
on: April 03, 2020, 01:44:54 AM
What do Autism, Luckin Coffee, Coronavirus, Dolly Parton, and the Kardashians have in common?

They're all in the top 10 searches for Today in the USA

Tracking trends and mentions via "big data" is how businesses...do business.

And you don't even have to offer a survey or ask a question - what people are doing online is telling you what they want or are thinking - whether they want to tell you that or not.

Now, I get that - but I'm not a tech expert (I was a tech expert, but then they changed what tech was....) - do we (and by "We" I mean "Grant" ) have an easy way to track mentions on MT.O ? Can we see what is trending, what is perennial, what is recurring?

I don't know if the forum tools (uh, as in the back end functions of the forum, not the tools mentioned on the forum, or the tools who use the forum....) have this capability built in, or if there is an external way or managing it....

but I think it would be interesting.... (It could also be an assist to various commercial opportunities, but that's not really my angle here)

Aggregate data is not usually the answer to any question, but it can be a piece of the puzzle - I think it would be nice to know exactly how often the Spirit gets a mention, and then compare that info the the Wave, for example.

The forum may do that, but to be honest I rarely pay much attention to the forum analytics in the backend.  I manage mostly with the information available right on the surface- each thread in the list shows how many replies and how many views and that is usually a good enough gauge to see what is popular and what isn't.

The Main Site is another story though.  There is a lot to look at in the back end, although when it comes to analytics I generally stick to what the Google Analytics are, since that's where the $$ is with our Google Ad Service.
